Hi all, I've got a problem with my mk4 2.0 that keeps recurring,can anyone shed any light in what the problem is please.
The engine is running erratically and seems to be not exactly misfiring but not running nicely either and is drinking petrol like a fish, I've had the plugs and leads changed a few times which seems to fix it but then the engine management light comes on again after a few weeks and the misfiring and fuel problem returns.
My mate said it could be a valve problem because one particular plug always seems far dirtier than the others but I took it to someone else recently who said it was the coil pack and he changed it but the problem has come back.
Also there is some history of cat sensors which might be contributing to the problem?
Can anyone tell me if I need to get the valves done or is there anything else I can try before having to do that?

sounds like lamda sensor fault probably pre cat, (in the manifold) would suggest getting the fault codes read first point you in the right direction of whats bringing the management light on.
