Title: Odd rear wiper fault
Post by: local_boy on 16 October 2009, 20:56
ok so the rear wiper on my 97 8v gti hasnt worked since i got it, and its now its turn on the list of little things to sort (before it needs more welding...) Just wondered if anyone has a wiring diagram for the rear wiper circuit, and knows what the 3 pins are on the plug (center is earth). Got odd readings on the outer two, one is around 2.5v other about 3.7v. Switch seems to be working as the 3.7v drops to zero when moved. Any ideas?

Poor/corroded connection/switch somewhere.

Check the wires where they go through the hatch grommet.

Checked through to where connectors are behind n/s/r light and there fine. Anyone know what relay controls the rear wiper?

Just a bump and question, should the stalk 'click' into the rear wipe position?

No from memory, the relay should click however.

Found it! internal short in fuse box not suppling voltage to relay. Now an external relay with its own supply!
