Title: FUEL
Post by: namers73 on 16 October 2009, 19:05
Hi,

Newbie here. . . just about to purchase my first MK5 and I was just wondering if you guys could give me a rough idea of the average amount of miles you get out of a full tank of petrol?

Thanks

Search the forum, you'll find loads of info.

I fill up when I get to the last quarter.
At this point I usually have around 310 miles covered, and the computer tells me I can go on for another 80 miles or so.

This is a typical week to work and back though - mainly motorway and duel carriageway.

In town is a different story - and putting your foot down is an even more different story!

Really depends on how you drive and the road conditions, but the GTI is pretty economical compared to other cars in its class.

Thanks for the info dude.  310 sounds reasonable with 1/4 remaining.

It varies but I usually get 290 miles with the needle just outside the red.  I get about 29 mpg.

Somewhat subjective, but 90% of my driving is pottering around town and to/from work so all short journeys.
My edition 30 is approx 350bhp and I've always seen 320 on a tank, pottering to/from the lake district it managed 400.

if you are worrying about fuel consumption, dont buy a 2 litre turbo, but a yaris or something!

I get around 32mpg

From past experience, I tend to fill up as soon as the 'empty' light comes on. At this point, I've done anywhere from 200 miles to 380 miles. All depends on how heavy your right foot is!

My mpg varies between 21mpg (town driving) and 40+mpg (cruise-control at 60mph).

My mate has a dodge charger, and when pushing it struggles to get above 4mpg :D

I average around 330 miles to a tank, that consists of approx 20% dual carrageway/Motorway and 80% city driving

Usually around 27mpg

While we're all (ok, not all of us!) interested in consumption, it's not really the overriding issue to be focusing on in a GTi...

FYI, I can quite easily eek out a long-term average of about 29 mpg; These are cold start, short runs, which are 100% urban, at approx 2.5 miles per day during the week... Weekend is fun time :afro:

But seriously, if all you are doing is watching the gauge head south, the GTi ain't for you. To be fair though, for the output and what it is, it really isn't that bad.

Anyway, petrol is a finite resource, better enjoy it while it's here!
