I've got a set of 5 spoke soft spoke alloys and I'm thinking of painting the spokes black and mirror-polishing (whatever it's called) the bowl/lip. But would it come up with a different finish if I sprayed straight on the alloy, or polished it first? 'cause I'm going to have to scratch it up as such to get the paint to stick anyway, right??
-
rich, you aint gonna want to polish the spokes too mate, believe me. polishing takes a LOT of time to do properly.
you'll want to Nitromors the wheels first, to remove all traces of paint, then polish the lips. then mask off the lips and spray the spokes.
its not gonna be easy to do with your type of wheel either, as the spokes actually join the lip. might be one for a pro tbh mate. its do able, but will prob take you more time than you'd like, and if you make a mistake you'll kick yourself.
-
Surely mine'd be easier, as there is a step between the spokes and the lip, as opposed to if the spokes just smoothed into the lip?
-
its the fact that they join the rim that will make it difficult as you cant spin the wheel and polish it, makes it fair bit harder dude. id say get a price from a pro, if its waaaay outta your reach then give it a go, but i know what your attention span is like, and i dont see you finishing em! lol theres a challenge for ya eh!

get some pics up or name the wheel

Second pic shows the join a bit better, but got no close up pics of them. Dunno what they are, just some cheapys as far as I know.

personally i wouldn't ~ i know i haven't got the attention & patience for doing that. if they were dished then it might make the job easier.
good luck anyway if you do go ahead with it

I've had my golf gti for a months now, bought it off a good mate who had well looked after it. His business is powder coating/painting wheels and other metals. Just wondering where the best place i should advertise his business for him is on gtiforum? He recently done wheels for a car which got 'best wheels' in the wheel whores show!
It's a small business which to be honest im just trying to help him get it out there some more, there's no website etc so this is the whole point in this post,i'm going to sort it out for him!
cheers guys and look forward to your respone.
I know i probably should've started my own thread about this? i just don't want to jump in and start shouting out company names and advertising randomely etc

Mew: I stumbled across it by complete accident while just driving around on Pigeon House Lane. It is a stunning little area
Goob: Where is he based, and how much do you reckon he'd charge for what I'm after?

Sorry for the late reply mate...
He is based near Glenrothes in Fife, I will give me a call later and find out an estimate for you. Also i'll get a few pictures of previous work he has done so you can see.
i'll report back asap!
