Title: Gamma Head Unit in a MKII? also any other head units?
Post by: nathyd on 15 October 2009, 19:37

Hi there,

I've had to replace the original tape head unit I had, now i've bought a universal apaptor and have been using a mates cd player
but it skips all over the place and i want to go back to a tape cassette so i can use my i-pod through the tape cassette.

will the gamma one's i've seen on ebay work with my MKII?  also I borrowed a rover 770 tape head unit and that was locked so do I hvae to worry about security codes with the head units I buy?

thanks alot in advance, I am very much a newbie

Standard fit headunits tend to be a little weedy. If you want to use your ipod then either get a cheap tape player off ebay, buy an FM transmitter or buy a cheap headunit that will control your ipod as well.

Just check that the existing Golf headunit wiring hasn't been hacked. Once you know what the wiring and connections are like you can compare them to the replacement headunit.
