Title: Check this GTD out for £15,000
Post by: sundaydriver on 15 October 2009, 16:42
Been looking thru the pistonhead website and spotted this 2009 MK6 GTD for £15,000!

My local stealer wanted £24,000 for a 2009 GTD when i was looking for one but decided to get a GTI.

Typo in the pistonhead advert - this car is £25k.

Clearly the PH ad is fake. They've just cut'n'paste from eBay.

Email them and they'll give you a load of cock and bull about the car being abroad etc etc.

Very likely to be a scam.

Thanks,
Tony"

Make sure you can pay with a Western Union money transfer, and ask them how much shipping is to Nigeria

Here we go with the response I got then:

"Hello,

The car is located in Madrid, Spain and so am I.
We've recently moved to Spain and brought it with us. It's in showroom condition, no scratches, no dents, accident-free.
2009 Volkswagen Golf GTD 170 BHP 5 Door Black  and still UK registered. RHD, UK supplied (NOT AN IMPORT).9,000 miles.
The price I'm after is 15,000 pounds sterling including delivery to your home address and full insurance during shipping.
Please let me know if you're interested so I can provide you with further details.

Thanks for your interest,
Hattie Williams"

I was thinking of replying and telling them that I'm in Madrid too - how convenient!  And could they provide an address for me to go and view the car!  What do we reckon?

Let's see what they say to this:

"Hi Hattie

Thanks for the response - that's a real bonus as I work for a Spanish company
and I will be in Madrid for business later this week (arriving Weds) so if you
could let me have your details I will come and view the car whilst I am there.

Do you have the original purchase invoice and could you let me know the
supplying UK dealer so that I can make a few checks?

Thanks,
Tony."

Seen this a few times. All they want to do is to convince you to make the payment to a company that will hold the money until you get the car. Company is actually theirs anyway. So its a win win for them. :nerd:

Here was the response from the scamming barstewards!

"Hello,

Since I have a written contract with the shipping company they will handle this sale for me and they will act as a third party between us.
I can give you the website of the Spanish shipping company where my car is held and you can get in touch with them.
They will explain the entire procedure regarding payment and shipping.
I also hope that the car being in Spain is not a major inconvenience for you.
I know that at this price I will find a buyer in no time, so this isn't a major inconvenience for me.

Kind regards and many thanks"

I'm surpirsed people actually get suckered in by this stuff.... it's amazing!

The pistonhead website have removed the ad now (bit late i think as some poor sod will be getting excited about a new GTD and handing over their hard earned cash!)

Let's see if they get bored....

Hi

Yes please - could you put me in touch with your representatives as soon as
possible as I will be in Spain in 2 days time and will have the funds made available
to proceed and drive the car back.

Thanks,
Tony.

my friend actually was falling from it, lukily i managed to persuade him from going further with the deal!
