i posted a while back that vw have been rubbish a sort my problems with my golf especialy my gears i was tiold to go awaya nd wait for the problem to develop more now it has they still not interested so thought you guys could take a look at my few problems and see if you can help as the vw engineers are crp asked them do diesels mk4 golfs have a dump valve he was unsure and would have to check he is idiot. here is my list of problems
1) gears 1,2,3rd are stiff and sometimes struggle to go into gear this was solved a little with some white grease on the shifter and linkages but now when i put my foot fully down on the clutch change gear sometimes it grinds like its not meshing or the clutch is not far enough in even though its all the way?
2) door rattle and wont close easy you have to use alot of force to close the drivers door and it does not sit right it sticks out from the body slightly when you close it slowly you can see it gets stuck/slows when its 2-3 inches from closeing but there is nothing in its way to slow it?
3) whistle noise 2 of them i have a whistle noise which i thought was the fans but now not so sure as it only really happens when i accerate and or go round a corner its not there all the time just some of the time but its getting more frequent?
the other noise is coming from the ger box foot well area when i accelerate then change gear it does a whistle noise like an old style kettel?
4) there is a bad rattle from the engine area in low revs very bad like something is lose
5) the steering rack cracks and makes noise when turning and during full lok?
anyhelp with these bits its much appreicated as vw says they carnt find anything wrong wich is bull sorry for the essay like post

My opinions:
1) Clutch is worn out and not releasing properly.
2) Door rattle could be early indication of the window mech about to fall to bits on you or simply a loose trim. Check trim panels under steering column - mine rattled and I though it was in the door. As for not closing, likely badly aligned on worn out bottom hinge. V.common.
3) Cornering whistle sound might be a wheel bearing on the way out, which direction you steering when you get the noise. Gearbox noise changing gear? Is this car turbocharged - dump valve noise? Is it when you press the clutch down - release bearing?
4) Engine bay rattle, get stuck in and have a poke about!
5) Creaky when steering, spring or top mount bearing related.
VW found no faults, were they very busy!?!?!? You may just have to try elsewhere or wait for something to develop a bit further. :undecided:
-
1) would that cause it to be difficult to put it into gear its like there is lumps in the gears
2) thanks
3) no dump valve its a tdi its when i press the clutch in
4) sounds like lose metal vibrating not a mechanic so not got a clue what am looking at or for
5) thanks

Just your turbo, nothing to worry about
-
@ bobreece,
1) Worn shifter bushes? or clutch cable thing
2) Door may be out of allignment
3) could it be the clutch release bearing?
4) anything obviously loose in the engine? you removed/fitted anything less than properly? i get a rattle because i'm too lazy to remove the cai and refit it properly
5) You done loads of miles? i had to have a steering rack replaced on either my rover or civic, through use/abuse
-
its not the turbo as it was not there for the first few weeks i had it its different you can hear the turbo spool up nice and a little dump noise but this noise is coming from the footwell gear stick area and its very tinny noise its only a 1second little noise but its just not right and you can hear it more now as if its getting worse
-
only got 54 on the clock when i got it its now 57
-
I'd try another dealer seems like your local one is a bit poo.
Or complain to vw uk in milton keynes about the shoddy service? Might get them to look properly into it?
If you want the number i have it in work can sort it for you monday
-
yes please m8 number would be good. going to visit another local dealer if it dont get sorted tomorrow and not tell them i have been at the other one and see what they say
-
why not just take it to another garage to get a second opinion?

Number 2 could be the the door catch is worn - had mine replaced under VW warranty common fault
-
1) worn clutch , leaking slave cylinder , air in clutch line or shagged dual mass flywheel which could also be your noise . maybe low gear oil or shagged box
2) door latch loose (bolted to door pillar) or not adjusted correctly hence door sticks out and slow closing i would guess your door check strap is broken or seized (goes from body to door at front between the 2 door hinges)
3)whistle could be to do with number 1 , shagged gear box and whining or turbo
4)rattle could be anything but does it come from gearbox area or does the rattle go when you put foot on clutch , could be noisy turbo as they can whistle bad when shagged or could be your dual mass flywheel ratling its tits of
5)steering cracks when turning etc could be loose rack bolts as mondeos do the same or could be a crack in the rack itself or worn suspension parts etc maybe broken front coil spring
-
just had a massive arguement vw pricks not happy off to another dealer now post what happens later

Only against the law if it was a catagory write off, do a HPI check if it's not on the register then it's not against the law otherwise how do they know it's been crashed,? Lots of cars have had paint/panel work.
