Title: WHERE is the engine number on a 1.8 turbo engine block

as above, i need to inform dvla of a engine change and just wondered of anyone could point me in the right direction. thanks

Under the engine cover, right in the near left hand corner of the main block theres a bit that sticks out with the 3 letter number code stamped on it. Will get a pic later.

He asked for the engine number not the engine type. The three letters (AGU, AUQ, etc) won't be the actual engine number. To be honest I am not sure where that is stamped...  :undecided:

yeah the actual number, wonder if im best off asking on the mk2 forum for when they do 20vt conversions on them.

the engine number is stamped into the left hand end of the cyl block and also on the right hand end of the cyl head also a barcode ident sticker is located on top of the timing cover or cyl head nearest the breather pipes
