Hey
I've got an ABD 1.4 Single point injection, been offered a recently refurbed AEX and been assured all of my junk will transfer over, i.e throttle body, injector, dizzy and ancillaries etc if i just use the head/bottom end
also wondering about ECUs? will this work too?
is this the case? they look very similar but just want to make sure im not going to buy something i cant make use of
cheers

Anyone? sorry, just been offered this and need to pick it up this weekend if it'll all fit together

you will need the ECU because its a different injection system. so it will need coding, or you will need igntion and door locks etc
you will need the throttle body, possibly the air intake system also, injectors, not sure on fuel pump, i would imagine it would be the same, the wiring may need changing aswel as the sensors may be different.
Theres quite alot of work really for what it is. and that is presuming that all the parts fit (the blocks look the same but that doesnt mean that it has the right mounting points or whatever), but it should be do-able if you have the time.
Also the difference isnt that great between the engines to go splashing money out. the aex responds and revs better, and it will have slightly better torque (slightly) but its still as slow as the abd

i wouldnt be swapping it to gain any power, it's just the fact this engines had work done to it and it's cheap, plus the fact i think mines giving up the ghost soon
so basically it may or may not work, and if it does its going to require abit of tweaking here and there and the odd part
cheers for the advice

so you want to swap your ABD engine, to the AEX? if so i would change all the injection systems to the AEX system, will need the ECU locks etc.
If your on about converting your ABD block to have the AEX injection system, im sure its do-able, but you need to weigh up if its worth it!

was just going to use the AEX head and bottom end, then move over all my injector, throttle dizzy etc over, but i've decided it's just not worth buggering round with the ECUs etc, it's almost a conversion for all the effort i'd have to put into it

im not quite sure if im following what you wana do!?
if you are planing on just changing the engine, replacing your ABD with the AEX blocks then you wont need an ECU or anything as your using your existing injection system. Try looking on a mk3/4 polo site as they had the same engines and will probably have more information on what you want.
