Title: Recommend Revo Dealer South East?
Post by: Chris192 on 14 October 2009, 12:15
Hi Fellow Golf Lovers,

New to the forum here, and first post :) - quick question (appologise if this is the wrong place to post) Has anyone had a Revo Remap done to a Golf GTi 1.8T? (150, Pre 2000 T reg) - Ive just sold my 328is BMW and think im going to notice the power loss in the new golf , however ive been told that you can go from 150bhp to 190-195bhp with a Revo remap, also i hear the Torque increase is significant!

Has anybody had this done? Do you notice the difference? And if so is there anywhere in the South-East (Kent area pref) that anyone can recommend?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice,

Chris

Dont bother with Revo.

Speak to these guys at R-Tech and they will remap your car, most of the regular MK4 boys on here have theirs remapped. R-Tech also did my MK5. Give them a call, they are based in Hickley, Leicester but will come to you for a small call out fee.

If your adamant about wanting a Revo Remap then AMD Essex (http://www.amdessex.com/) will do it for you, get a price from both of them and get ready to be shocked how much more AMD want for what is essentially the same thing, not to mention both Nick and Ben from R-Tech being both sound guys.

Hey Alan,

Thanks for the rapid reply! - Ive had a look on their site and looks impressive. They seem to offer the same 150 - 195bhp upgrade as revo, and looks like they only charge a £40 call out fee, I will give them a call at some point to get more details.

One quick after thought...

Do you know if you need to upgrade any parts on the car after the remap? Obviously there will be more strain on the engine, brakes etc so do you need to upgrade the breaks or anything or is it basically just - plugin to the diagnostics connection - reprogram the ECU and away you go?

Thanks again,

Chris

Also IIRC R-Tech are doing free mobile remap service on this months deal list http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=131198.0

Wish I knew this three weeks ago but not to worry.

The lads are the best at what they do and it's well worth the cash (£200 on yours OBD Remap 1997><2000 = £200)

Have a read thru this Chris as you will only really need to change your DV to a Forge one which I highly recommend you getting that from R-Tech too

Its highly recommended that you upgrade your diverter valve as the additional strain of the remap often causes the standard one to split. R-Tech will do you a Forge 007P DV replacement fully fitted for £85, you should be able to haggle that down and get a discount if you get the remap done with them.

You dont NEED to upgrade the brakes but seeing as you are pushing more speed it would advisable although as not essential. You dont actually NEED to upgrade anything as its as simple as you say, the ECU is reprogrammed and off you go, more power.

Have you given yourself a budget for performance upgrades?

Well i was looking for a car around 2,000k - 2,500k after my 328 packed up and my friend was selling his 1.8T Golf so after having a test drive I fell in love with it. Im buying it for £1,850 so I have around £300 - £400 to spend on mods. ECU Remap being the first on the list and im probably going to pick up some new pedals. My friend had a Turbo dial added above the dash which looks awesome so other than any additional requirements after the ECU upgrade im not too sure!

Im down in Sevenoaks, How did you find the change after you remapped your 1.8T? Noticeable difference? So long as I can get it up to or quicker than my old 328is i'll be happy :) from the looks of remapping the ecu i should be quicker but I can but hope! May do exhaust - nice link there, that'll give me something to do over the weekend! ;)

Think it will be close, the bhp will be roughly the same but the BMW has more weight.

The BM will handle better unless you buy an uprated rear ARB and lower the suspension.

Either way it will be so close you'd probably not know.

Oh and my last comment was on experience as my friend has a 328i and I have driven both but mine is an AUM with R-Tech's spec 1 map which should be about 210 bhp and my car is faster but not by much.

Ah thats good to know! Just didnt wanna go a lot slower than my 328 - hopefully the golf will handle better than my 328 as the guy who had the bm before me messed with the suspension and upgraded the bushes which totally messed with the cars handling and made it handle like a shopping cart from tescos! Will probably lower the golf to give it that little bit more grip. Does the 1.8T come with 16's as standard? and what size can you comfortably sit on there without having to mess with spacers or anything?

Most people go for 18's on here mate if you want bigger wheels.  They will go on all day long with no modifications if you get the right offset ect.  And as for the map i have had both revo map and R-tech map on my car and i can honestly say the R-tech one is a lot lot better.

Even if they were both the same price i would go for the R-tech map without a second thought.

I only live in Chielshurst so not far from you!
