I saw a Mk 5 GTI yesterday in Longsight near Manchester that had LED side lights and it looked amazing, they looked like the Audi style. Reg was M3 --- (Won't put the full reg)
has anyone managed to fit any if so where did you get them from and how much?
-
I have them integrated into the headlights
The brighter one on the inside is the sidelight.

Nice!
Are they plug and play?
-
Hurdy where did you get those ones from? Did you just wire them into to the sidelight switch? You need any resistors wired in to prevent the bulb out light?
Cheers
-
They look even cooler 'in the flesh' - as does the rest of Hurdys car!
-
just replace the sidelight bulbs with LED white bulbs, thats what i did.
-
I love these and have been toying with the idea of buying them. They'd look the dogs b0ll0x on my black ED30.

If you have proper LEDs, then you should constantly get a 'bulb out' warning - unless you have somehow VAGCOMed it out? :undecided:

Ahh - they already have the appropriate resisitors in the circuitry. The probs arise when peeps just get some plain LEDs in an appropriate bulb cap, and then swap them over.
-
Nice product that! Now how bright are they, I mean are they as bright as the Audi DRLs? Can they be seen if the side lights are on during the day?

What Golf do you drive ?
I have bought some already with built in resistors (Made by Ziza , much more expensive than those on ebay) and they both work but after about 5 seconds one goes out and I get the error message on the dash.
Just want to make sure you have a Mk5 golf before I buy some
-
It's a 170ps oiler with Xenons - they are much brighter - but NOT in DRL territory.
Unless you have dainty hands like me you'll find them tough to fit as the push fit into the bulb holder is very snug
No 'bulb out' warnings - and I also fitted LED numberplate lights from the same source.
HTH
-
ive ordered some, fed up with the chav blue ones they supplied with my white headlight bulbs!

Is it a Mk4 or Mk5?

Oh FFS - did VW ever produce a 170ps Mark 4?
-
Sorry just checking before I buy some  :embarassed:

Some LED lights now come with resistors built in, although I've yet to find some

Not quite plug and play, plus you'll need to swap the motor for the headlight adjustment.

Dont fancy doing that so i have ordered some of the ones that have been posted in this thread  Lot less hassle and no chance of me ballsing anything up!

LEDs turned up this morning, had a quick look at them, do they just plug in? They dont look like they will fit! Will have a proper look later
-
Yes - tight fit though
-
Fitted easy peasy! Apart from I was trying to get the indicator bulb holder out for ages by mistake! :embarassed:
Will take some pics when it goes dark but here is one during daytime:

got mine and they dont work! :-(
do they defo work in Mk5's?
-
I ordered mine they should be here today. They had better fit lol.

Yes

they fit, albeit tightly, but do not illuminate.

-
Well others report they work ok? I guess you have a faulty set just? (I Hope)

That pic shows them working on my Mk5 R32

Try swapping them around and have you definitely swapped the sidelights and not the indicators? :undecided:
-
Defo sides, as I had previously swapped them for blue W5W's when I put the osrams in. Both don't work.

Take one out of its holder, swap it around then do the same in the other holder, when you swap the bulbs don't do it with the key in the ignition
-
I dont see why that would make any difference?
-
try it only trying to help you pal!
-
Got mine yesteday. They are no different from the Philips BlueVision sidelights in terms of their output. I had one of these LEDs in on the left sidelight and the Philips BlueVision on the right. They are both the same. I was hoping the LEDs would be a lot brighter but they are not.
So, if you want rid of your yellow sidelights get these LEDs or the Philips BlueVision W5Ws. Good news is both products produce a nice crisp white!
-

They have to be of the correct polarity to work.
-
Well I already tried both, both ways round, with and without ignition. Must be faulty
-
Did anybody fit any of the number plate LED lights?

Looked into this ages ago, but I was put off by tales of melted bulb housings

Helloo!
Apologies if this sidelight led has been mentioned before but it's a cracker and wanted to share it! I tried one recently from hids4u but it didn't spread the light widthways enough in the light enclosure as it only had two light outputs. This one has five and it spreads the crisp light a treat. Remember though, if it doesn't illuminate, just spin it around 180 degrees. On my ed30 i lifted the charcoal canister out of the way (driver's side) to have easy access. A small pair of thin nosed pliers worked a treat and i was all done in five minutes. The led light works superbly with xenons especially. Cheers.

I just fitted some of those in my puddle lights they look ace!
-
I brought some of these and they are the first ones that work!
they look ace in sidelights, problems is, even tough I have osram silverstars, they make them look yellow!
might buy some more for number plate lights/puddle lights.
-
Obbzi - how did you go about swapping the puddle lights mate? Fancy having a bash at mine, bet they look great!
Also interested in trying to change the footwell lights if anyone has any tips or know if its possible/easy etc?

Easy mate! Just one torx screw to remove, then the plastic lense slides out, old lamp out new LED in 2 mins!
Fancy doing the interiors next, never thought about the footwells, will do those as well!

Quite agree - did mine and the difference was amazing - quite difficult to capture in a photo but perhaps this will give you an idea of the "whiteness"...
same issues with the polarity - the final trick seems to be to turn the ignition on and off a few times to "kick-start" these bulbs.
I also did the puddle lights - the difference isn't so dramatic - but be aware that it's a simple procedure - just bend the mirror all the way forward to expose the single torx screw, undo the screw and remove the small housing with a flat-blade screwdriver, replace the bulb and you're done. Some websites/forums suggest that you need to dismantle the whole mirror housing but this is not the case !

That looks good , was looking at these LED bulbs earlier, how would these fair against these PIAA LED bulbs?

Ouch! nearly £100 for some side lights?
-
Not E Marked for Road Use
-
Not E marked? what does that mean? does it mean that its alot brighter than the standard £10 LED on ebay?
-
not E marked, means technically illegal for road use I believe. anyone?

Technically yes, they are not road legal, but there are a lot more pressing issues to be dealing with out there!
