Is it just me?
Do you get sly/admiring looks from other drivers?
People pointing (normally only seen in the rear view mirror)?
WOW comments if you give somebody a lift?
Cars moving out of the way suddenly when they see you are behind them?
Friends/neighbours asking to have a look?
Maybe it's just me and a bit of 'new car' syndrome but people do seem to notice.

The other week on the M62 I saw this guy absolutely pegging up the outside lane behind me so I moved over. No word of a lie he stood on the brakes and drove alongside me for seemingly ages ogling my car. He then floored it and disappeared into the distance.
What was he driving? A Mk 3 VR6
I also had my first "race" last night. Some scroat, again in a VR6, took exception to me disappearing into the distance so he spent the next couple of minutes catching up and passing me, by which time I couldn't be arsed to try so let him go. I've had the car three months and that was the first one so I suppose I'm quite surprised it's taken this long.
-
actually i've had hardly any admiring glances... or glances at all... from strangers. it is similar to the Mk5 to non-enthusiasts and no bad thing that it doesn't attract too much attention. if i wanted attention i'd get a civic type r or focus RS.
friends have loved the car, esp the park assist. a few comments about the cloth trim being cheesy.
also the alloys have triggerred "chav" comments from the wife!
but mainly my friends say its hot!

I have to agree with keelaw, no one pays a second glance to my car or even a first glance. I think thats the point of the GTI. My boss seems to hate the Monza Shadows, says it does not fit the car. As long as I love the car, I do not really care what others have to say. But of course if people say they like your car, who would mind?

Must be my Monza 17" then.

Caught lots of people having a peep through the window when its parked up
give em the "back the feck off" flash of indicators usually

Is it just me?
Do you get sly/admiring looks from other drivers? yup, all the time
People pointing (normally only seen in the rear view mirror)? lads standing outside the building next to my office last friday, about 5 of them all watched me get in my car. either they are gay or they were loving the car
WOW comments if you give somebody a lift? yep, had that twice!
Cars moving out of the way suddenly when they see you are behind them? this is the major thing i have noticed, i get it every day and i'm not going up people's ar7es, they just get out of my way (and they never did in my mk 5)
Friends/neighbours asking to have a look? yep, day 1 the neighbour 2 doors down came over for a nosey and commented how good the 18s were - he knows his stuff

Maybe it is the DRL's that make them move. I have had a lot of this and mine isn't the GTi

No not that, I switched mine off day 1, tired of being flashed (after 1 day) and couldn't get the old Volvo/Saab jokes out of my head.

Out of curiosity - how?
I've tried what it says it the manual but no luck...
-
My dealer offered to switch it off for me when I picked it up even altho I hadn't mentioned it.
The manual works for turning it off.
-
When I finally get my Gti, I'm gonna leave my DRLs on. I want people to see me coming and move out of my way
-
The DRLs really does not look that bright when you are standing and looking at them but when driving around and saw another GTI, it is really bright, almost like the main headlights... so I can relate to why people think you are flashing them. But as DRLs become more common, this misperception will also lessen. So I will just have it on. It looks nice too...

It works, on and off.

i think it depends on whether you have xenons or normal bulbs
-
you get loads of stares from lads. its a gti and the monza shadows are bling. not many alloys look this good on the road aswell. mines in jet black and looks wicked.

I tried on a car with xenons and it didn't work. Is it suppose to work for halogen only?
-
Its like the MK5 all over again :D

I'd be scared sh1+less that they would want to rob my keys. 5 on 1 aren't good odds.
If it was 5 hot looking girls on the other hand..... actually that's even worse cos my legs would probably wobble 5 times as much as normal, at least with a fight with 5 guys adrenaline would help me throw a punch or 2

Now I have mine, I can reply in this thread.
The admiration really is in full force. Head turner, stares from other motorists. Even had one lad point to it tonight.
Makes me feel good, but also makes me even more paranoid that something might happen to it.
-
yes i remember back in may when i first had mine people would stop dead in their tracks turn their whole bodies, point, stare and sometimes shout, it was like i came from outer space. I sold the car 2 months ago and now starting to miss it
