Hi all,
Right I've got a bit of an issue I need to resolve regarding the mileage of my mk3 GTI. I found out you can check your mileage history with VOSA. I have done this but wish I hadn't! I bought my car on 16/02/2008. The car had 68,000 miles on it when I bought it. These are the mileages recorded on the last 4 MOT's.
04/05/2006 68,204
24/04/2007 4,872
09/01/2008 68,106
07/01/2009 76589
It's looking to me like the mileage has been clocked but I want to ask on here if there may be a legitimate explanation such as a few trips to the moon and back! The owner of the car before me had it since 2004 so he must know what's going on. Luckily I know where he works but before I go storming in there I'd appreciate some advice on what to do. I'm a bit annoyed as I paid over the odds for my car thinking I had a low mileage example and also I don't know what to say if I try and sell it.

As a guess, the clocks broke and were replaced, how they went from 4k to 68k, I can only think they were mileage corrected.
Also worth remembering that if it was a private sale you have no legal rights.

Very unlikely the car did 64K miles in 9 months!
So yes a clock change then corrected but not fully corrected!

Did that particular tester read the correct numbers? looks like he could have read the trip numbers. :undecided:

But the 09/01/2008 is less than 04/05/2006.
P.S were you working Thursday last week DPB? I may have seen you.

Possibly, but I wasn't in my Golf. That is off the road for fettling and will not be returning to the streets until it has a UK plate.

The person who corrected the mileage would have gone by the last recorded mileage (on paper) but it's only 100 miles out so I wouldn't care lol

i think its the fact that there is a 2 year gap between the correction, it could have done 40k in a 2 year period, maybe even more, id just ask the guy straight up, in a nice way lol
