i am wanting to get a new transponder key cut for my golf as i dont want a different ignition key
so can i have a transponder key cut for mk2 and can it be coded to an abf ecu
i have original seat key transponder ring and immob box and wondered if the above would work
cheers

the main thing is you get a matched key and box, this can then be matched to your ecu with vag-com. doesnt even have to be an abf set, any mk3/seat one of the correct era will do.
matchign a new key to a transponder box reequires an skc code, which you cant get any more, so this is a dealer only job. however vag-tacho can sometimes be used to retrieve the skc, but afaik this can only be done if you already have a matched key in the ign lock.

i have a matched key/box and ecu already as i put key in transponder ring then start with original mk2 key (car isnt on road yet)
i would like to keep my original lock set and get a chipped key made for it
i take it you have to get skc code through the diagnostic port and is vag tacho part of vagcom
cheers

ok in this case, I'd buy a cheapy blank key from the bay of e and chop out the chip from the key and swap it into the new key. Get your local key cutter place to cut the blank for you, last time i did this it cost me a couple o quid for 2. Alternatively get hold of vag-com and code a new key and get it cut as above.
Or do what I did and get a cl kit like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Central-Lock-Locking-Kit-Remote-Keyless-CLR60W_W0QQitemZ380162577300
has a hole in the remote for the chip. Comes with 2 free key blanks as well, you want 'HU49'.
