Title: 8 or 16v conversion
Post by: Aubrey1982 on 23 September 2004, 19:37
Alright?

Ive just bought myself a mint bodied, Knackared engined mk1 1.1c. Ive got a load of mods planned including full leather, mk5 polo dash and a beamin respray. One of the mods includes an engine conversion for which I am going to buy a breaking mk2.
Should I get an 8v or should I get a 16v which will cost a bit more. Living on Anglesey North Wales top end isnt really an issue i want windy road more than anything.

Anu advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks all

Hey,

May as well go for the 16v, if you are doing the work you might as well have a bit of extra power :)

Good luck with the project

I think you should put a 16v in , the only expence is going to be the modded 16v engine loom & the exhaust manifold .
Also i would suggest going for the 2.0l version found in the carrado or passat just for goode measure .
This should be mated to a 16v gearbox to keep the engines revvy nature .
The whole lot then driven down to stealth racing to extract around 170 bhp out of it . This adds up to a pocket rocket for less than a grand inc brakes & suspension.

didn't think of using a corrado or passat engine, whill look at prices to see how much they will cost. wont the loom from the donor car work? i am not much of a mechanic myself, my mate will be brains of the project with me as his gopher.
Does anyone have any performance figures for any of their cars with a similar engine swap I want to settle an argument.

cheers
