Golf 1.8 manual 8v non gti knocking sound wen revd

wen u rev my car over 2000 rpm a knocking sound can be heard which get worse the higher up the revs u go :( wen accelerating or decelerating it cant be heard but wen traveling along at 6o mph with just enuf throttle on to keep her staying at a constant speed the noise can be heard. the sounds seems to be coming from the topend of the engine when the bonnet is lifted. has any1 got any ideas wot this could be? cheers

1) stop using it untill you sort it, 2) knocking would suggest main bearings failed maybe

+1 or big end bearings, if its the main bearings the oil pressure will be low so as wayne says dont drive it till its fixed

Big end bearings would cause a knocking noise where as main end bearings would be a continuous rumbling sound.
Try to establish what speed the sound is, ie, engine speed or half engine speed. If it is engine speed, then I would say big end bearings, but if it is half engine speed and you say the sound is coming from the top end of the engine, then maybe look at tired tappets, although these would not knock, they would be more of a clatter.
