Good evening everyone...
Hoping you can advise me a little, I'm currently looking to purchase a mk4 Golf GTi, and i know from a lot of comments on here that the 1.8T seems to be the favourite among a lot of you, but i was wondering if there were any disadvantages to this model, and any advantages to the easier to find 1.8 and 2 litre flavors? I'm not really into heavy engine mods, but i do like the idea of owning my first turbo powered car.
I'm not worried about insurance costs (old enough not to have to worry) or fuel prices (Will only be used for fun :evil: )
Any other buying advise would also be welcome... or if your selling one......... and close to Essex well....

Personally i'd stay away from both the N/A 1.8 20v and the 2.0Slow,the 1.8T is the far superior engine of the three as std.
It really depends what you want from the car?
Spend a few hundred £'s on a 1.8T and your up to 195-210bhp.

yeah defo go for the 1.8t!! Much much better engine!

I have owned 3 Golfs all with the above mentioned Engines (1.8 non turbo, 2.0 Gti & my current one the 1.8t)
Out of all the 3 I would say deffinately get the 1.8t, It feels alot better & a simple re-map will give you loads of smiles!!.
After the turbo one I would rate the 1.8 N/A next & lastly the 2.0 engine

How can you even consider a norm aspirated over a turbo? Especially when its that pointless 115bhp 2.0L being the competition. I just got my first 1.8T (also in Essex) and love it.

1.8t all the way ... you will be happy :grin:

defo the 1.8t even std form kicks out at least 150 bhp compared to either 115 for 2L and 125 for n/a 20v.
as already said for little money the 18t will give a very rialable 195-210bhp and bout 230ft/lb :cool:

turbo turbo turbo my mate bought 1.8 non turb while i was on holiday wanted to slap him for not gettin a turbo lol its sh!t it wouldnt pull the skin off a rice puddin on a turb like everyone has put remap equals 210 brake many a smile get induction kit 007p dv decat sports back box forge tip front mounted get a stage 2 remap 4 bar fuel pressure regulator 240 brake even more smiles 9i know u dont wanna do engine mods but an extra 90 for less than a k comon be sensible lol :laugh:

the 1.8T 20V you can do som much more with them more than the 2.0Ltr
