Title: What a dipstick
Post by: ipswich1.8t on 10 October 2009, 18:33
well i was having a fiddle under the bonnet today , trying to work out how to fit my boost gauge , when i noticed my dipstick was a bit wonky ...pulled it out and most of the holder came with it .

So i have two questions (for now) , it it ok to still use the car , i've kind of blanked it off for now , and where do i get a new or better one from ? ....

not ideal tbh as it needs to have the tube/dipstick fitted as it forms part of the crankcase system which needs this in place to keep pressurised if these leak etc they can p!ss oil out

A new tube from GSF is £2.07, I also bought a new dipstick from the dealers for £6 both places had the items already in stock.

so where can i get one on a sunday .....lol

i've had a better look now and it would seem the tube was already broken off at the bottom and it was being held on with cable ties ...the main thing holding it together was the actual dipstick !!!
Could explain why my engine isnt exactly clean ...

Well its all fitted now , and i think (might just be me) that it actually runs better . If the tube has been snapped off ever since i had the car would their be a noticable difference ???
