Hi all, this is the first posting I have done on this site so be gentle ;) I am looking for advice on mods for my 1991 MK1 cab, these are
Wheels..... There seems to be numerous people stating all sorts in regards to what wheel sizes etc that I can get on my cab with no mods - please could anyone clarify? (Adam B big fan of your work on the orange cab BTW) any specific wheel examples would be cool too!!!
Lay flat rear windows - do these things actually exsist, if so can anyone point me in the right direction?
What is the best exhaust (manifold down pipe backwards) - would like to have a performance upgarde without any silly 10" tail pipes
I have had my car for 2 years now and have minted it to standard spec (genuine 62,000 miler) but now have a little money to burn and would like it to look phat for future shows etc, the only thing I have done (apart from renewing everything, roof, paint, interior etc) is I have dropped it by 40 mm, any mod advice is more than welcome here!!!!!
Thanks all!!!

ITS NOT ORANGE!!!!! it's red! :P
Hey Mix, welcome to the site. Sounds like you have yourself a nice cab there. there is a load of info on what I have done here (http://www.golfgti.co.uk/viewfeature_content.asp?featureID=25) and here (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=11827.0)
Would be good to see some pics of what you have though. Is it a Sportline, Rivage, Clipper or just a standard GTI?
If you want to have a look at some cabs with different wheels on, then check out Dubmeister (http://www.dubmeister.co.uk/), a bit of a pain to get stuff from, but an awesome selection of rare stuff.
Try Powerflow for your exhaust too

heheheheh sorry Ads, I eerrrr meant red ;)
It's just the standard GTi but fully leathered up etc and in really good nick, as mentioned I have sorted the suspension/roll bars and strut braces out so I think that it's pretty much running like a sportline??. will post some pictures of it as soon as I can prise some money out of the girlfriend for a camera.
What are the wheel and/or dimensions you have on your RED one? they look well nice - did you have to mod at all to get them on?
Re the exhaust, there is a place near mear (Manchester) which will custom build me a stainless one for ?299 all in but Im always dubious about non VAG customising, prolly be some YT fella that does it.
Thanks for the tip re Dubmeister will have a look n let you know - if you have any other tips etc on any mods which you are happy with and you don't mind me possibly robbing from you, please please please let me know
Thanks for your help buddy - it is appreciated!!!!!!

I am running 14x8 with 195/45/14 conti sports up front, and 14x9 with 215/40/14 conti sport on the rear. They are Steffan RS wheels, and actually stick out a little from the arch, so the coilovers are very stiff to prevent the rubber hitting the arch lip. The coilovers have given me a drop of around 80mm, but coupled with the smaller diameter wheels, and the vr6 chin spoiler, it is sitting very low all round, to the point where I am unable to put my foot between the sill and the ground!

hiya, welcome to the site.? nice to here of another cab addict on the forum, theres not nearly enuff.? ;D
my first mod to a standard cab would definately be the front indicators.? out the amber bring in the crystal clears.? after that the mod world is like the ocean, anything that floats ur boat will be the way to go? ;) :D
if the steffans are a bit expensive i always like to see bbs spilts on a cab? ;)
oh and ads, it is a bit orange :P

Thanks for the info will do some digging and let you know what takes my fancy, and hopefully get some before and afters posted on here.
Reckon that if you are spending some money on getting some new wheels you may as well spend whatever to get the ones which you want, given whats been said I may have to do some suspension mods pre new wheels??....... I can see the girlfriend baing happy ;)
Thanks again

BTW has anyone heard about these 'lay flat' rear windows, would like to convert if possible, if possible also to elec - would look quite nice dropping all windows together ;) could also conect to the full closure alarm

argh poor adam! leave the poor lad alone!
my advice for decided what to do with the car would be to take a big look around at all golfs, then decide which bits you'd like.
one of my first choices i made was for the vented wing, something i really liked.
