hi is my golf worth a remap to 210 bhp and will i need any other upgrades to go with the remap?? will it damage my car in any way?? and will it improve fuel consumption if it is drive sensibily??? you comments please o and my car is totally standard
-
Do it mate u won't be dissapointed, you should upgrade your brakes to 312mm trust me you will need them!!
-
brakes how much will they cost me to do???? plus you think i dont need nothin else just brakes???
-
Do it mate, you'll love it
Just a word of warning the remap will weed out any parts that are on their last legs (coil packs, the clutch in my case lol) so be prepared for this
You're best of finding a breaking TT or Skoda Octavia to get the brakes off, shouldn't cost too much
Give R-Tech a bell and I'm sure one of them will tell you if you need anything else to go with the remap
-
so what do you need brake wise of tt disc pads and caliper??? is it a straight swap??
-
You don't need the brakes - It's not that quick!
-

You only need the caliper carriers and discs, the caliper is the same and yes it's straight swap.
You can run a mapped car on the std brakes, and do a brake upgrade at a later date.
-
As Ivor said you dont need the brakes, maybe think about it in the future.... You can get a remap for around £200 but you may well want to fit a Forge 007p Divertor Valve which is around £80
-
force 007p diverter valve what is that/? whats it for??? and 80 quid second hand????
-
its a type of dump valve, and cost about 85ish new
-

forge 007p divertor valve replaces the oem unit which has a rubber diapraghm which once mapped is likely to fail sooner rather than later the forge unit is uprated with a piston type seal and you can replace the springs with diff coloured ones (which are coloured for strenghth) once upgraded pop a yellow spring in (green std fit spring) this helps hold the boost better than the oem one have a look at this http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=260301&product=FMCL007P tells you all you need to know
-
does that fit onto the circulating standard valve or does it replace it??? thank you

replace
search the forum for more info about DV's.............
-
its a replacement

REMAP IT
The only things i can suggest to upgrade are your underpants
-
A stage 1 remap isn't scary enough to warrant a brake upgrade really, but it's a good mod regardless. A good panel filter in the standard airbox and using decent fuel (vpower) go really well with a remap. If it's not been done before your throttle body will need cleaning/adapting to get the most from the tuning.
Your factory DV might last a week or two.. but they all break in the end, even on unmapped cars. Some people use a DV from an audi tt as it's a bit stronger and cheaper than a 007p but without the bling.
if yours is a high miler on the original clutch then it's probably on it's way out anyway, but the extra torque will make it start slipping sooner. As a general rule if you're under 80k miles and your clutch is still strong or has been replaced already.. then you -should- be okay. But then again sh!t happens
a 51 plate means aum engine code, so you suffer from dodgycoilpackitis. They can give up literally a mile up the road if they're a bit ropey anyway. You also have a complicated system of vacuum lines which are prone to leaking, same with breather hoses.
Boost hoses can work their way loose over time and develop small leaks which become more apparent after a remap with so much more pressure in them. Usually you can just clean them up and re-tighten them if that happens (with a 1.8T anyway, tdi ones break completely sometimes).
Existing underlying problems with the engine are usually the biggest issue with a remap. If the car isn't running right in the first place, asking more from it with a remap can amplify the problem and lead to disappointing power figures  Cam sensor, o2 sensor, maf, temp sender.. the list goes on. In the most unfortunate cases a car might have major hardware issues.. cracked manifold/turbo, split downpipe, broken cat, blocked oil pump or even internal issues. So if you're not running right before the remap, have any fault codes/warning lights or even suspicions then let us know.
Sounds scary, but there are loads of remapped cars out there running fine and r-tech check alllll that stuff for you. There's even an office with seating (but no lighting yet :lipsrsealed:) been built at the workshop for you to wait in while its done now lol.
No more standing outside in the cold lads!
-
I've heard the receptionist is very sexy and make a good cupa to
-
There's an office?!
Holy cap I need to come back!
To the OP, take it to RTech. The guys REALLY know their stuff. If they can't get you the full power, they will help you get the most your car is capable of. Whatever happens, you'll be really glad you go.
Really great bunch of guys, great prices, very friendly and as said, really, really know their stuff. Can't recommend them highly enouh

best advice - find a local garage, explain the problems and get them to sort it - you said its booked in somewhere IIRC?
We have given you an idea so ask them to do that. Report back if it cures the problem or you are still having the problem
-
me dad will clean it hes been in trade 40 years but he aint got machines to read codes or do computer stuff so ill get him to clean it then take it to garage after to get them to relign it yeah whats irc pal????/

once remaped you will feel way better pull and be glued to your seat more.. to get a proper pull back your looking at 250+ bhp
