Hope this isn't too stupid of a question.
I have a warning on the dash about stopping and replacing the coolant.
I've never done his before so dont have a clue about it.
I presume a trip to halfords for a bottle of the stuff. Is there a specific one I need?
One I have the bottle do I just poor it in and if so where?
Thanks in advance,
CS

Check your coolant but I doubt it will be low. There is a sensor in the cap of the coolant bootle (expansion tank) that goes and that is what throws up the warning light. Trip to the dealer rather than Halfords but it not an expensive fix and is a common fault.....

Thanks for the tip - it was freezing cold last night here so wondered if that could have caused an issue somewhere.
Silly question where is the coolant bottle? (i'm not with my car at the mo)
If it is the sensor is it an easy fix?
Thanks

So this morning on the way to work the warning came on again. Got to work (15min drive) and the temp was constant at 90 once it started to warm up (few mins into the trip).
Got to work - restarted the engine and its not come on again.
The coolant level seems ok and the pipe coming from the top of the coolant tank is warm to the touch but i think the liquid is flowing.
Looking at the other thread it could be one of two sensors. Any ideas which on?
I have to drive 200 miles today - will it be ok?
Cheers,

get a new coolant tank or clean it out - sensor in the tank has gone
As long as you're not losing any coolant then you'll be fine :afro:

Sorry for the hi-jack, but what if it is loosing coolant somewhere? I know this obviously means there is a leak somewhere, but could it also point to a bigger problem?
I had to top my coolant up about 2-3 weeks ago as the warning came on and the level had dropped below the minimum mark on the bottle. I also had to fill it up again this morning - so was thinking I may have a problem somewhere :undecided:
I still need to replace the lower breather hose, so I may just end up putting it in to have a service and once over.

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere Stronz as the coolant should hardly need topping up at all. If you topped it up and its dropped below the minimum AGAIN after 2-3 weeks theres probs a leak somewhere along the line. You can physically check the pipes yourself to look for cracks or leaks but if there is a leak it will probs need to go into a garage for pressure tests to confirm a leak and then the task of finding it begins :(

Brilliant
Oh well, I was kind of expecting something like this to happen.
Cheers for your help. Will let you know how I get on!

Your not alone matey. Even my MK5 sprung a coolant leak. I had warranty though which probs doesnt make you feel better :D

Yeah but I can continue to use my car for the next 9 months which probably doesn't make you feel much better :lipsrsealed:
