6th place with 67 votes... just behind the evora.
seems you can vote more than once...
shame VW is last in the alphabet... that must affect the votes since its such a long list! sadly i dont think this will influence the editorial, i dont think the GTI is "performance" enough to win

Seems to be fifth now, with 80 votes.
Vote early, vote often!

By the way, today's Sunday Herald has a feature on the Mk VI GTi on the back page. Lovely picture of a white 5-door with shadow-trim wheels. Excellent review.
Goes into quite a lot of detail about what's the same as the Mk V and what's been upgraded. Doesn't have a bad word to say about the car, actually. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be included in the online edition, so I can't link to it.
The fifth-generation car was a storming return to form for the famous brand after shaky efforts of the Mk III and the Mk IV. As an improvement and refinement of this winning formula, it's hard to see how the Mk VI could mess things up.
The Golf GTi revels in its status as the founding father of the hot hatchback genre and it isn't about to lower itself by indulging in the lurid colour schemes and tea-tray spoilers favoured by its lower brow rivals. Therefore its looks are comparatively low-key and classy, much like a standard model but with a soupcon of extra aggression bubbling under the surface.
There's a feeling of genuine class in the cabin that no other peformance hatch, save for Audi's prohibitively expensive S3, can match. [....] The desirability and quality of the Golf GTi are likely to keep demand high and residuals firm.
Comfortable enough to drive every day but with the talent to bewitch when the mood takes you and the right road presents itself, it's the hot hatch for the modern era.
I didn't think it was worth starting a thread about it since you can only read it in the dead-tree paper, but it's a nice article.

I've voted!!

And me three times for the gti  :smug:
-
hi hi hi I think the Golf GTI is now in second place...
-
oops did i just vote again?
3rd now behind the ZR1 and the R8 V10

I don't think you can vote twice, or not in quick succession from the same computer. Certainly, when you open the page, you always see the option to vote, and you have to "vote" to see the current scores, but when I did that, the top of the bar said "Thank you, we have already counted your vote" - and the vote tally did not increase.
It's pretty standard to make sure one IP can only vote once. I'd have been surprised if it had been different. Anyone who has more than one computer could always do a vote from each though.
The GTi seems to be equal third at the moment.

I`ve now voted 5 times using the same computer and the vote count goes up every time and no "you have voted before message",maybe down to what security software you are using.just voted twice within a short period of time
P.s I have now bumped it up to 130 votes, then got bored, its in third position at the moment.

3rd at the mo...

the mag itself should be out tomorrow.
anyone got a subscription? i imagine they'd have the results already?
-
Don't look if you want to read the mag to find out the results!!!!!
Golf won the hot hatch group beating the Focus RS, Impreza 330S, Civic Type R Mugen & Mazda 3 MPs. The final five were Clio Cup 200 (Supermini), Golf GTI (Hot hatch, obviously), Lambo LP670-4 SV (Supercar), Merc E63 AMG (Supersaloon) & Lotus Evora (Sports car),and the winner was.............................
Lotus Evora!
No mention of 2nd to 5th.
-
All the RS is is a chavvy ba5tard with power. I'm glad the mk6 GTI has put it in its place several times now.
-
cheers jam - i reckon thats a fair result.
