Hi, ive had my 96 gti for abou 3 months now and all has been fine, untill now, my abs light has come on and i can hear a hissing sound near the servo and the idle is really rough all the time.
any idea's on whats up with it?
and i dont have vag com as of yet but will get it soon but where does it plug in etc?
Thanks

Sounds like an air leak from a split pipe.
-
do you think it should run a little better then? and also when i been for a drive, stop at trafic lights my idle stays at around 1400rpm, i rev it then it will drop down to about 800, what causing this?
thanks

The air leak will not be helping.
-
just a quick one, will a split servo pipe cause the ABS light to come on?
thanks

Its possible, if not vag com will tell all.

Is your car an 8v mate?
-
yea its the AGG 8 valve and yea ok, just need to get the cable for vagcom and a laptop, and learn how use it lol.
-
you pull your ashtray out and clip off the black cover to the left and thats where ya plug cable. . . .
VW said would cost me no more than £50 to get mine plugged in. . . . 96 8v agg

There's another problem to add to your list then
As Drew said, take it to VW to get it plugged in or find a friendly mechanic that will do it for free :)
-
why would i have to take it to VW, sure vag-com is there to replace going to vw haha.
Can you erase all error codes such as abs warning light with vag-com, sorry im "a bit" n00bish but its my first car, altho i am a quck learner so already sorted a few niggles etc out :)
thanks
-
but you said you dont have vag com as yet. . .
so just saying a trip to VW can sort out whats the problem sooner.
oh,as for your ABS light. . .prob a sensor gone done and needs changing.
one trip to VW could answer all your questions and then no guess work.

thanks

taken ma car into VW today and apparently the split servo pipe should turn on the engine warning light not the ABS light and guess what...i have and ABS lght on but no engine service light lol.
its all booked in for tomorrow so hopefully they'll let me know tomorrow whats up with it.
once they have told me i may need help as ill be replacing components.
Thanks
-
you should get a read out of whats wrong with it etc. . .
then fix it yourself or get someone cheaper the VW to sort it.
or get VW to sort it.
-
yea thats what i am goin to do. they would charge so much etc. just the read out will be mint and the support of you guys :)
-
just got back from vw, they only tested the brake system and the offside rear sensor is gone, should be an easy enough job :) and they said the high idle would be due to the split servo-manifold pipe, this true?
thanks
-
ive replace the pipe that leads from the servo to the inlet mainfold and now ma car runs great, no high idle speeds (The agg doent have a ICV) and really smooth idle rpm, it seems like the split pipe is a common problem, pretty much every golf i looked at in the scrap yeard had this problem.
Just leaves my ABS sensor to replace now, is it an easy job?
thanks
