Can't wait to spec the car up properly!
I've been agonising over whether or not to get DSG....
i've always had manual and i think i'd miss the old stick?
-
Quick question, how do you put a deposit down on something that doesnt exist yet ?
Have you actually given money to the dealer, or have you just asked them to call you once they are on VW UK ?
-
i've put a grand down as a deposit and chosen the spec i want
as soon as they get the official spec they will ring me and we'll finalise the details....
But if the price is more than we're expecting £27-28K they will refund the deposit (if i want).
however i imagine i'll still go for the car regardless

I'm betting dealers are so desperate for cash they'd take your deposit on the Mk8...
My dealer was happy with £500

I know what you're saying but there's no risk and it puts me at the top of the list...
I've just sold my RS4 so I want my next AWD baby as soon :smug:as poss

In the Netherlands, you can already order the R... Orders could be taken from last Saturday and delivery expected to be in January... Basic is Euro43,000... I dont think I will be going for it... even if I can afford it... Its just too expensive for a hatchback...

I put down a deposit in May for a Scirocco R. £500 which is fully refundable if I change my mind. All it does is put me first in the queue. The week before the Frankfurt Motor Show I called my dealer and asked if I could put a deposit on the Golf R too - he told me he had no enquiries about it yet, and I could be No1 in that queue too!
In the last few weeks I've decided that I'm 99.9% sure on taking the Golf over the Roc - but either way, my other deposit is refundable - or can be transferred to pay the balance of the car I actually choose!
I got the Golf R brochure yesterday from a guy on eBay.de. It took over 2 weeks to get here, and is in German - but its nice to be able to show people what I'm buying!
Rising Blue is the colour that all the promo shots are in. Unfortunately its not available on the configurator on vw.de just now, and will probably be added later. As one of the first orders, its unlikely it'll be available for me - but I wouldn't take it anyway... as I bet about 1/2 of the Golf R's ordered will be specced in that colour! I reckon it may be another Steel / United Grey car for me - as I loved my Steel Grey Edition 30!
-
Thats cleared that up then  it will be a popular colour, but wont be a lot about to become common,
like the mk5 R there was only 2 DBP in Hull where i am and 1 of them was me and thats a popular colour

I was in my dealer on Saturday to test drive manual / DSG for a comparison. Sitting in the used section of the fourcourt were 3 MK5 R32's... ALL in DBP! I would say at least 3/4's of the R32's I see round my neck of the woods are DBP!

No this is perfectly reasonable, I did this on the press release day for the ED30 at my local dealer, a few weeks later the official date for order acceptance arrived & I called into the dealer & put the spec together before they submitted it to VW.

My dealer said that he used to work at Audi - and when the TT was first released there was a huge hoo ha! Some people had put down deposits already and formed a queue - i.e. first deposit - first to order. Everyone wanted a TT at the time, and there were huge waiting lists. People would offer to come in and pay a few thousand extra if they could get it right away. By having a queue of people serious enough to put down deposits meant that the cars were ordered on a first come, first served basis.
I put £500 on the Golf R - which is enough to show I'm serious and get 1st place in the queue, but not enough to make any difference to my day to day life. Its not like I'd get any interest in the few months that VW have it anyway. And if the price is too expensive, or I don't like the options, or I simply change my mind - the deposit is fully refundable... and whoever is No2 in the queue will jump to 1st place!

As above coments but its the same as the scirocco so if you see a metallic blue scirocco you have seen the colour.
