What about the VW Racing remap??

Has anyone gone for this yet? It's being offered by dealers and the warranty matches the VW one.
250bhp
380 Nm torque
£500 (remap only)

Applies to Golf GTI mk5 & 6 and Scirocco GT.

this is the one i'm most interested in as its through VW so if there were any issues its down to them.  If anyone has any info/brochures on this (other than the ones previously posted in German ) that would be most appreciated.  Also if anyone has had this done if there has been any issues with it and info on speed, fuel consumption, any wheelspin issues etc that would be great!

The VWR remap comes with an additional warranty to cover failures due to the remap that the std factory warranty is voided for.  The customer has the same cover until  the factory warranty expires. Don't expect any out of warranty goodwil from VW though if anything engine related were to fail after 3 years.

would any engine problems be likely to occur then?  i suppose the risk is greater because more stress is being put on the engine?

yup they do, i was told about it by my dealer in a general conversation when i picked my car up, they had just started offering it.  which is why i'm interested as i can't bring myself to use a company i haven't heard of but if VW themselves are offering it then i feel a little more comfortable about it all!

Yes. Selected dealers only.

I'm still undecided though. I'm not sure about how it would effect the resale value. I suppose if it is through VW Racing that would be better come selling time (VW racing are an independant company and not part of VW UK). My dealer has assured me there will be no difference to the warranty. Might be an issue getting any sort of extended warranty though. Insurance could be an issue as well. You also get a little R badge for the boot.

this is my concern - insurance and extended warrenty.  personally i wouldn't want the R badge - i'd like to keep the power hidden for maximum surprise value

Unless they carve it into your paintwork, I'm sure there are ways around a badge.
