The reverse lights on my mk2 16v GTI don't work. The bulbs are fine, so am I right to assume it's the switch?
-
I had the exact same thing on mine, it was the switch which is attached to the gear box. I just replaced it and has been fine since.
-
Pull the plug off the switch, bridge the terminals on the plug if they light it is the switch.

Yes of course, I didn't think of that!!

Well I gave that a try.... and still no lights.

Fuse?
Someone else recently said he tapped the switch lightly (or the gearbox near the switch) and said that loosened the bearings and made it work, worth a tap. This reminds me, I should also look into my reverse lights...

you dinnae need reverse lights anyway
-
You don't but there are enough idiots out on the roads they need as much hand holding as possible (refering to the idiot who tried driving into me with a mostly frosted window this morning and made my tyres smoke breaking to not hit him).
-
i lived without reverse lights on my first mk2 golf. people realise you're reversing when your car starts moving anyway so it makes no difference.
-
Are reverse lights covered on the MOT?
Fuse is fine - number 14 15amp.

Check the bulbs, if all ok then it is a wiring issue.

A lot of my friends and me included have got mk2's and none of our reversing lights work, it's a mk2 thing I think. What sort of price are the sensors from a motor factors or VW?
