hi guys,
only had my 16v since sat,and already some issues are popping up.
today's issue:.....whilst driveing home from work the power steering went for approx 5-10 secs,then came back and was ok for another half a mile.
then it did the same,lost all power steering for 5 secs,then back to normal...
it's the first time it's done this..it's been ok upto today...i checked the fluid ,that seems full enough.
any ideas????

Was it timed with going through a puddle or was it raining hard?
Often the belt is worn or not correctly tensioned and when it gets wet it slips meaning the pump slows down for a few seconds.

yea it was raining,as it only happened about an hr ago..and its still bloody raining,
so hopefully it's nothing to worry about?????

yeah it's really common mate. You got a haynes manual? Should detail how to check the belt and tighten it if required. If not as you're only in Andover feel free to chuck me a PM (you'll need 2 more posts to use PMs) and we can sort out you whizzing over to Basingstoke and I'll have a looksie for you. I can fit you a new belt if required or tension the old one.

i have not got a haynes yet....wanted to wait a week or 2 before buying one,just to make sure the car was ok....lol

A Haynes is essential. Or you can download a Bentley manual. or somebody will have one on disc! :wink:
Blooming frightening this when it happens!
A tightened belt will last a few months, maybe 6, so its worth changing the belt.
Make sure you get the correct one as Eurocarparts are not infallible!

No problem, always willing to help a fellow dubber where possible. Len makes a goo dpoint re the replacement belt as well, usually best to buy one from GSF or ECP and use the reg or chasis number to make sure you get the right one.
If you want to come over and have me look at it we can see if my local autofactors have the belts in, they're usually pretty good.

Had to order one from my local ECP and they still got me the wrong one!

just pre ordered mine.
went to my local factors,who have now been bought out by dorset auto spares...shows how much time i spend there..lol lol
anyway £3.33 + vat ...can pick it up 2morrow....he sold his last one today funny enough.
does that sound ok???
