Just wondering what the exact process is for the GTI's build week till the Dealer has it at their garage and what the timescales are ?
If a build week was starting 1st Oct, it takes 4-5 days to build ? How long does it take to get on the boat ? Then how long is the actual boat journey till the dock in the UK ? maybe a 24 hr thing ? What happens and how long till its picked up at the docks and arrives at the dealer ?

I can imagine that will vary considerably depending on many factors such as scheduling a full load for the boat, where your car is on boat when it comes to be unloaded this end, how far from the dock to your dealer it has to travel, etc. I remember hearing that the shipping companies have been hit quite hard and so there are less boats operating between Europe and UK.
Yours due imminently then?

My dealer said the wait for a boat was quite variable, because it depended on space being available. Having said that though, mine didn't hang around. I had week 35, 25th August, so the week ended on 29th August.
I got the car on 17th September, but I think it could have been a week earlier if I hadn't been on holiday. About 2 weeks from end of build week to delivery I think.

From the many previous threads on this subject we came to the conclution its between 2 and 3 weeks from build week till the time you can collect.
Of cause it depends also on your dealer and how busy they are at that time, but a good rule of thumb is 2 to 3 weeks.

Yeah, mine was built last week. I'm hoping to actually have it in my grubby hands by the end of next week ? That a bit too optimistic ?

Sorry about that Snoopy, If you show me the many previous threads asking the boat travel time, the time from docks to dealer etc I will gladly lock this up. Infact, dont show me many previous threads, just show me one.

Mine was built first week in September arrived at dealer last Friday and got it yesterday. 4 weeks all in. But the average seems to be 2 - 3 weeks.
I'm sure I read it only took 2 hours to physically build the car!!

Smart arse, forgot about that
2 hours to build ? wow.

i think from building it to delivery took about 2.5 weeks for me - yours must be built by now kev, don't forget to call your dealer on fri to get him to check the system as it should be on the boat by then!!

Yeah sounds about right to me although it's more an assembly job than a build due to interiors and engines arriving on crates from other plants/factories. If you ever get that chance to go round a modern car production plant do it, it's an eye opening experience. The sunroof injecting robot at Plant Oxford for the minis is an amazng thing to watch in action as well as the 2 robots that fit the front and rear screens. It's all over in about 30 secs.
