Bad idea
somebody had told me that i didnt need to change the internals but uprate the bottom end?
Sounds like a contradiction?
is that true?
Probably not
what bhp would it giv me?
Low pressure turbo's add around 30-50% BHP over stock
and what cost am i looking at?
Between £300 and £4k depending on your competency and ability to fabricate.
could somebody give me some advice please?
If you are asking these questions, don't bother. Turbo'ing an engine isn't cheap, straightforward or really a good idea unless you are already turbo savvy (which you are not). Just go the normal route and fit a reliable 1.8T or a cheaper ABF.

ok thanks
well want to keep the car as original as possible thats why i was thinking low pressure turbo
but might us cam it?
but i might just build a road legal race car with the 2l 20v turbo or vr6 lump
vr6 going to be easyer and cheaper
wont be til next year now though
-
Why keep it original? For value or for plain old rarity?
If you want to retain/add value, putting an ABF or 1.8T in will do just that. A cam won't really give big gains, especially if you were considering a turbo, the 2.0 16v is cheaper than the VR6 last time I checked.

wel i can pick up a vr6 for 300 an a mk2 gti for 250 swap it all around an weigh the unused bits in an get some money bk?
i dont know yet anyway wont be any time soon!!

i just got hold of a vr6 and have been looking at the turbo route even if i had 220bhp id be happy with that im new to the vw scene used to be a jap man ooopppsss haha
sounds like a plan what ur doing
are u getting the whole car (vr6) ?
-
i knw i shudnt be sayin this on here but i do like jap car, id rather have my mk2 but just to rag about a jap car i dnt mind lol,
yeah hole car so i was just plannin to use everythin off the vr6 an put it in the mk2...
full roll cage, two bucket seats etc.
was thinkin about gettin a turbo planted on it but as i say not til next year now, get the mk2 finished first

One of the guys from HIC used to have an 8v turbo, from what i remember it was a tad expensive/explosive to run
-
