Just wondering how many of us out there are now proud owners or soon to be proud owners of a mk 6 GTI? Do VW do limited runs on the GTI? I've only seen a couple on the road and they weren't locally registered.
-
I have one... muawahahahahaha
-
I've only seen a couple on the road and they weren't locally registered.
I see two every day round here and the local dealer had 4 GTI's and a GTD on the forecourt this morning. The current economic situation probably resulted in the factory reducing output to suit the low demand, so relatively few out there.
-
Have one ordered should have it december.

Do VW do limited runs on the GTI?
I've got one, bought an ex-demo as I couldn't be arsed with a long wait for delivery.
Makes you wonder whether they are doing limited runs at the factory as the waiting lists are huuuge. Mind you my Dad recently ordered a new Jetta (yes, he has bad taste) and that had a massive waiting list too so he got badgered into taking one that was already on a boat somewhere with an engine he'd never test driven  ). I think all VAG stuff has a silly waiting time right now. I know of some guys waiting for new SEATs and have been for months.
-
iirc VW/SEAT/Audi/Skoda factory orders are around the 10-12 week time for any model have been for every one we have had,
-
my wife has one.

Where in Devon are they? I'll keep my eyes out for it! Might nick your wheels too!!! (Only kidding on the last bit)
Back on topic, spoke to a mate briefly yesterday who is a purchaser for a large car fleet and he said he'd spoken to a contact of his who works for VW who said that for GTIs and Sciroccos you're looking at Feb/March delivery times if you order now. But they are going to step up production soon. I know that's similar to what we've seen on the forums before but these guys are well connected. My mate said that their firm are now having to buy VWs in from Ireland for their stock and upgrade the alarms to UK spec using aftermarket companies.
So that's a nice answer to the doubters from other parts of the forum who said nobody would want mk6s and they'd have no resale value - right now it may even be possible to make a small profit on one if you'd bought it at a discount! In six months time it could well be a very different story though.....
-
Got mine two weeks ago. Ordered end of June.
Fantastic car, love it to bits.
Improvement in most respects to the mk5. Can't fault it really.

It doesn't always look so blue - depends on the sunlight. If the sky's grey, it's very similar to Carbon Grey.
It also looks better when clean, as it was in the photo.... :embarassed:

So they say. But the 17" are much cheaper, cheaper tyres, more comfortable, less easy to kerb, no white worm, faster and not BLING....
Previous poll voted 20 to 4 in favour of Monza shadows so they are more popular. (or is it common )

More comfy ? maybe, but I bet you'd be hard pushed to tell the diff in a blind fold test (of course not when your driving, when your the passenger  ), faster ? probably get to top speed with the length of my knob as the distance between the car behind on 18's. Cheaper and cheaper tyres is a given. Bling ? Don't really get that. 18's are classy.

is that a good idea sleeping with your keys. what happens if you opened the car by accident- assuming its parked in your house if it was.
-
ha ha ha if it is in my house, the car's safe... the unlock button is rather stiff. I doubt it could be accidentally pressed in any case... ahhhh wish I could be dreaming the MK6 GTI... but I hope I dont end up with a wet dream... instead... sigh...

This topic "How many GTI owners are there" is an interesting one to ask.
As a lot are probably company cars or leased etc and not actually personally owned.
I now have the use of our companies one till mine arrives. (So I bloody should! Its the reason I don't have mine yet (long story )) after that I then have use of it for company business when I need it.

My Mk6 GTI when it arrives, is like all my own cars, private owned bought by me with cash.

are you saying we all dont own our gti's. we are all poor degenerates with dole money?
i tell u one- the gti i just bought is for the business, buying stock etc..... its my work car.
not only that, its our 5th golf, and one polo sport. havin a gti as a company car is pretty car- its usually standard mondeos and....bmws...
-
I think you have to ask yourself... if the majority of companies are leasing cars instead of buying them, there must be a reason. That reason happens to be the same reason people get out of bed in the morning. MONEY!!!!
Its just that most people feel more comfortable with the idea that the car belongs to them, and are paying for that feeling :lipsrsealed:
-
Mine is my one and only car and was bought with real money for everyday use. It is not on PCP or any other form of finance and is imho the best car I have ever owned. I just smile every time I look at it and if I was a man no doubt would have a stiffy every time I drive it!!! lol

My point was that the car would still be exactly the same regardless of how you paid for it, or owned it, or used it.. etc etc.
-
whoever said about if its a company car its not your own car is talking sh1te. you may not physically own the car but you still pay for it via a salaried car allowance and in tax. however you 'own' your car you pay for it - therefore its effectively yours for the time you're driving it!
-
If you buy a car you can keep it for as long as you like (I've had mine 12 years).
If you lease then back it goes after 2 years and you are left at square one.
I would only lease a car if I had a terminal disease with less than 2 years to live, then it makes sense.
Or if I was a cash strapped company with chronic cash flow problems.
-
Golf R,
I think you are wrong to say that companies only lease when they are cash strapped, it is actually sound financial solution to keep your cash flowing by leasing rather than cash spent on capital assets such as a car which have depreciation. When leasing depreciation is not taken into account whereas if you had purchased the car, it would. The other advantage of leasing is that technically the budget stays the same but you can get a new car every 2 years or time frame agreed in the contract. The most important thing for a company is maintenance as well. So if the car was leased, all maintenance will be done by the leasing company. So thats another obvious advantage...

Funny how there are so many leasing companies doing very well thank you.

i'm sure they are. but from a company's point of view, particuarly in terms of cash flow, the advantages to leasing instead of owning are obvious. that's why companies do it.

Looks like i hit a sore point for some of you.
Its about time the goverment did there green thing and said, if you really need a company car then you can only have white vans/car derived vans of different types and sizes with green tecnology engines

Good idea, make all company cars white
-
At least you know what car/vans to avoid then  Reps cars use to always be white back in the day.
-
For VAT registered peeps, I thought you could claim back the VAT on the monthly payments on a lease. Non VAT registered peeps end up having to the VAT as well, so it works out more on non VAT leases.
When I get mine I'm gonna stuck it on the mortgage which for me is currently 2.5% and intend to pay a fair whack every month to pay it off asap. £24,000 works out at £50 interest per month, but obviously this will go down as the capital goes down.
