Got some 14" RA's but i cant fit them... how long do the effing wheel bolts have to be , can you buy them as a set? ill need 16
any links or measurments would be great.
-
are they vag wheels?
-
yeh, ive measured the normal ones that are in the steels around 25mm, but they only just poke through on the RA's, where as the steelies its 90% of the thread into the hub.
so ive ordered 45mm bolts so will have 20mm into the hub. bit of trial and error, probably should of tried VW but i dont have time to get to stealers.
-
Might be wrong but I always believed they were the same bolts.
-
the earlier models had different bolts for the steelies, but now these have been dropped in favour of the longer alloy wheel bolts. Not sure exactly when this change came in as etka doesnt even list the short bolts now. I know my 89 driver had the longer bolts anyway.
If they're gen vag wheels its all good, if aftermarket then you will probably need different bolts. VAG wheels use a ball seating, whereas most aftermarket wheels use a tapered seating. If you need tapered ones nick a load off a BMW in your local scrappy, tapered seat and the correct thread for VAG 4 stud, plus a little longer.

ive managed to grab some longer newer VAG/BMW bolts and they definatly come through more, now im just paranoid to how much thread i need to safely hold the wheel one? any ideas?
-
Any wheel bolt should make at least 6 360 degree turns!
-
so around 6 threads, hmm think im going to whip the speedlines off the ibiza tomorrow and see how much threads holding them on for the last 5 years and a trip round the ring later, then ill aim at that.
