i have a t reg gt tdi, and it recently had the top mounts replaced on the back, and the roll bar bushes on the front. This was about 3 or 4 weeks ago. since then it has developed a very loud creeking noise on or very near to the right front wheel. this creek occurs when the car approaches any form of bounce in the road, even stopping, starting and getting in and out of the car. whilst driving it is loud and highly noticeable. I have had a look underneath and it sounds as though the noise is coming from the wishbone area. im not sure but is it related to having the roll bar bushes done? If its something thats not very difficult to do im happy to give it a go and see if i can sort it out myself. cheers

Sounds like a bush problem.

Bushes on most mk4's suffer from drying out and then begin creaking.

i fixed it, with a can of WD40, a whole can of it :laugh:
I sprayed just about every possible moving part on and surrounding the wishbone and everything it connects to, and it stopped! I will get a picture up of the area that i think it was making the noise. I literally unloaded a can of WD40 onto the areas it looked like it was coming from, then it didnt sound so bad, so carried on and it went away! Its soo much better to drive now, the creek was very loud!

So you didn't fix it. You just made the sound go away so it can get worse whilst you forget about it due to not being able to hear it. Good Job.

Just because the bushes are dry doesn't mean they are knackered.
Stock bushes don't normally creak, polyurethane bushes do.
Why would this be a problem on mk4's Slick? aren't these bushes still the same material as earlier models?

Yes i did fix it. The bushes that were making the noise are the new ones, as i said, its been doing it since they were replaced.

What i meant was i've not heard creaking bushes to be common on mk1,2 and 3 golfs, surely the problem isn't limited to mk4's, as the bush material must be the same?
The chap said the bushes were new, so i would suggest the quality wasn't very good, or poly bushes were fitted.

I can only imagine that cost saving was a large consideration. I have done some looking around as mine were squeaking a little and came across loads of threads that mentioned the bushes drying out on mk4's (or similar models)
I skimmed the first part, and mis-read the part where he mentioned the sound was coming from the front, so my bad on that part. I would agree though that it does sound a bit like the bushes are of a shoddy quality. I would think he would mention if they were poly bushed. Would feel it in the ride too.

If it helps the parts were from europarts lol and it was done for free from the dealer i got it from so it probably was a cheapo job :(
