Title: MOT Failed Today
Post by: christomk3gti on 02 October 2009, 10:44
my GTi failed today, sooo gutted....

Heres why...

Front windscreen has damage to an area in excess of a 10mm circle within 'a' zone

Nearside rear brake pipe excessively corroded.

Also failed on both front tyres. I knew this would as i'm waiting on my alloys coming.

I'm sooo gutted.

But also quite happy in another case, as the tester, said its the best mk3 gti he has seen in years, with low milage. and in Fantastic condition. including the engine

Anyone know how much a new windscreen will be and how much the brake pipe is going to cost. (its the brake pipe from the rear caliper.) just that section. The rest are fine, just want cleaning up and greasing.

PLz help asap.

thanks guyz

Unsure on cost of brake pipe because my nans mechanic always does mine..

But if you have windscreen cover on your car insurance then you can ring them and tell them you need a new windscreen and you'll have to pay your windscreen excess only. Recently had mine replaced and it cost me 60 quid :)

Windscreen on insurance is normally £50 or £60 (check your policy, some TPFT policies do cover it), brake pipe will be about £30 I would have thought although I always make my own.

If you can't get sceen on your insurance then shop around for a local glass place as they are massivley cheaper than Autoglass, RAC windscreens etc etc.

I know but the now know i need a windscreen so they wont cover it. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH lol

Right big question here....

The scuttle panel that sits on the bottom lip of the windscreen is slightly brittle. WILL this be a problem when changing the screen.

I've just been quoted 109quid for new screen fitted today. is that good?
still ringing places as we speak.

You can buy a kit from most autofactors to make your own, i bought one and make all mine. Most places don't sell made up pipes off the shelf.

However brake pipes often fail but really just need a clean up. Jack the car up and attack them with a wire brush to clean all the crud off and then cover them in some nice clean grease or underseal. Make sure though they are not badly pitted ot rotted otherwise they will need changing. If you are unsure, clean them up and ask the gaage to re inspect them. They shouldn't charge you much to replace one anyway.

think i may have something sorted.

my mate said he will help me change it tomorrow morning at work, so hopefully i can buy some pipe and make my own, then least that way, i get experience doing it myself.

Dont like taking it to a garage, for 1.... some of them are pants, and may nack things up... 2.... I dont see them doing it.

Cheers for all your help. I'll keep you posted on the fixes. and the retest

My sexy wheels are coming today.. after 3pm.... Cant wait.

Horney - sounds good, will be well protected especially from corrosion.

I'll ring the windscreen place and get them to fit it this afternoon.

Pics?

£109's not a bad price, but Autoglass are f**king sh!t.

They glued a passenger window to a customers car and told her not to open it for two days, because they don't bother replacing clips.

Wank.
