As the title says, has anyone on here ever taken a set of say design 90's or similar, and polished them to a mirror finish from standard??
I've come across these people ...
http://thepolishingshop.co.uk/
They do a kit for ?30ish to do this very thing - but I'm wondering if it's more hassle than it's worth ?? ???

30 quid sounds like a bargain, ive heard of people doing it design 90's.
which inturn inspired me to want to do it to my old bbs rims.
i think its best to go to a professional to do it mate, i think you can get it done for about ?25 a wheel ;)

it just takes a lomg time, dont expect instant results. id say a day to day and a half per wheel of intense rubbing >:(
-
easiest way to polish the actual outer rim edge is to jack a front wheel up, start the engine, stick it in 2nd or 3rd, let the clutch out slowly
the wheel will now start to turn. then just apply wet n dry starting at 1200 grade and working your way down
effortless polishing? ;)
once that wheel is done then swap it over with another
its only suited to wheels that have a dish obviously!!

that site says to use powertools.. :o

That's what I was planning - cordless drill and a few polishing attachments - doing by hand would be like community service surely !!! ;D
Cheers for the comments lads - Bling bling soon ;)

i'd like to know how you get on, i'm up for mirror polishing a set of le castlettes. i use a polishing mop on my bbs to keep the rims all shiney in this sh!tty british weather! but they were polished to start with so its just maintainance, don't know how i'd get on with starting from scratch

unless you have a serious amount of spare time id get em done pro, it takes absolutely ages, and youll struggle to get the finish that a 'refurb' company etc would, flatting down at the laquer/paint/primer to get to the bare alloy is a right @rse to start with, and some paint strippers (if you decide to use) can eat into the alloy its self.
once youve got to the bare metal youll need a mains powered drill really to put any real pressure with the 1st stage of the polishing kit (rough wheel and rough polish) and for all the other stages, when ive done this i use the industrial pillar drill at work on its highest speed settings and even that takes some serious time, then you change for your next softer wheel and polish and finally the soft mop and polish to try and get the 'mirror' effect.
just a little bit from my point of veiw, it is possible but more hard work than its worth!!!(unless you have decent equipment etc)

Never done this but i was advised.......do not get polishing done from an alloy company. Go to a place where they specialise in polishing, it might even be cheaper but the results will be a lot better.

ive just finished taking some kerbing marks ( :-[) off my rm outer rims and found quite a quick way of doing it. Once you have done the sanding bit use a buffing disc in a drill with some cutting paste for car paintwork, this gets them really shiny quickly, and then you can put some autosol on them to get the mirror finish 8)
