Sorry if this subject has come up before - i did do a quick search but couldn't really see any topics relevant to my question.
Anyway, i have just picked up our new (to us) GTI on Tuesday and have noticed that when we lock or unlock the doors with the remote, it makes a little whirring noise and locks/unlocks quite slowly. Is this normal for this car? I only ask because the previous cars that i've had with remote locking/unlocking have always popped up their door buttons rather than them coming up slowly.
Does this make sense?
TIA!

They use a pump rather that a solenoid like other cars so can be slow after a while !!
-
Thanx for that. Is the pump replaceable then and more importantly, is it worth replacing the pump? It's not a problem at the moment but i'm thinking that sometime in the future it might become a problem.... ?
-
Unless its painfully slow I wouldn't replace it. Even if it packs up you can still get in with the key !!
-
As above, leave it be

I wouldn't worry about it, mine is like this also. Btw, have you discovered that you can have the windows come down automatically if you turn the key to one side when opening it, and vice versa, closing all windows that are opening when locking it?
-
I wouldnt do that unless you are sure all the window mech's work!
-
the whiring noise and slow unlock would suggest you have a leak in one of the pipes that run to the locking mechs, find the hole and seal it and all will be fixed.

Turn the key to one side? Whilst in the lock i take it (assuming the wii type sensor thing wasn't invented in car keys back then ).
Might have a look and see if i can find a leak in the pipes. I'm happy to live with it tho, now that i know it's a standard thing. :D
If i have to unlock the car with the key, wont the alarm go off when i open the door?? That used to happen in my Vectra and it was effin' annoying!!
-
lol
yeah think it will. Unless its also wired up the the key, hense when you open with key it eactivates alarm. but saying that.... cant see it would be as any one could screwdriver your lock and get in fine.
Why dont you try it

Might have a play with it tomorrow.

I dont mean playing with the central locking, i meant playing with opening the doors with the key vs the fob etc lol.
