I bought a "lights still on" alarm kit from Maplins (Velleman-kit K3505) to
remind me to turn the bloody lights off before I get out the car, because
I always leave them on.(Bad habit)
Anyways, there's three connections off the kit.
G = Ground
L = Light bulb +wire (Dip wire)
C = Switch connection (Dip switch)
The way I have it wired at the moment means the alarm wont go off if I
leave the right indicator on, (Right park) and then switch the ignition off.
But it does work in all other instances - Headlights/Dip/Left park.
This is the way it's wired at the moment.
G = Ground
L = Thin Grey/Black wire (Back of light switch unit)
C = Thick Black/Yellow wire (Back of light switch unit)
I know it's a bit anal but, I'd like it to go off in all positions. Besides,
I'm sick of my neighbour knocking on my door laughing his head off
saying "Guess what?" ;D
Oh yeah, how do I insert an image to a thread here?
Thanks in advance

If its of any help, i did mine a different, and much simpler way. With a 12V buzzer/alarm wire one side of the buzzer to the door switch (earth side) and wire the live side to anything thats at 12V with the lights on. I used the light in the heated rear screen switch. This way, if the lights are on, and the door is open, the alrm goes off. Th only prob is its regardless of ignition, although thats not hard to remedy. It doesn't come on with parking lights though, but that doesn't matter, really?

when i leave the car, my Sony head unit beeps 3 times whcih reminds me to switch the lights off and take the sterio face off :D

Wish I could make sense of those Haynes wiring diagrams :'(
If I could get it to work in all instances, I'd write a tutorial or something and pop it in the Garage section or whatever, for what it's worth. :-\
-
Bump.
I know some techy here knows :)
-
My way still works fine! ;D
-
try an autoelectrics place there is a buzzer for what you want they are connected to the rear lights left and right and have 4 wires 2 for the lights one for ignition and neutral/ground they work so that when either of the rear lights are on it buzzes when the engine is off only other way is with 2 buzzers fitted.
-
Yeah, thanks for that Rain,
If it costs much more than the ?8 I spent on the Velleman kit, then I may as well get another.
Or maybe I can sort something out whith a diode. Nah, my brain's begining to hurt allready :D

for anyone with electronics know how or if you want to try and put a lights on buzzer heres a picture of how its wired youll need 3 high capacity diodes and a buzzer good soldering would be handy.

not sure if there the right fuses check the board but its left rear and side light and left rear and side light.
-
No, I'm not too clever with electronics.
I have a basic idea but thats it. Not a knowledge of it.
I reckon it'll be a good idea if you put a simple schematic up on the board though.
I got a link to a PDF (6kb) of a simple schematic of the kit I bought here http://www.velleman-kit.com/Downloads/0/Infosheet_K3505_off%20lights.pdf
Just wondered if I could add anything to it to finish it off
-
its fine to be honest but to get it working with parking and lights youll need 2 buzzers.
-
What about a similar approach to mine: One wire from door switch to buzzer, and the other side of the buzzer goes into the boot, and then splits and goes to both of the taillights. There are spade terminals on the light units to attach wires.... That has to be a simple and very effective way!?
-
cant split it to both lights without diodes or it means that the other light will get power cause of the connection.
-
Yeah, but that doesn't matter, cos it'll remind you all the same!
-
yer fair point, if you can solder though use the rear of the fuse box saves running to the rear.
-
Definatley, but i was hoping to give everyone a simple guide, and running it to the rear takes about 5 minutes at the most! It does cost a bit more though, unless you have a lot of wire! All you need to do is remove the kick plate. I ran two wires to the boot so i could have a switch in the dash for my split relay, in the boot.

You can get to all the wires you need for it, by taking off the blank/false switch above the Dip/Headllight switch. (Pull firmly)
Then press your finger on the metal spring clip on the top of the Dip/Headlight switch unit, to push the top out first. ?Then put your finger in a bit more to get just behind the Dip/Headlight unit to get the bottom part out. ?Pull the unit out a few inches for access to the wires.
I think I'll get another kit. ?Easier. Haha.
Thanks for your help guys
Now I can get on with my next trick. ?A motorised sunroof. LOL

Theres a MUCH easier way to get to the switch! Put it in the on position, then lever it out from the bottom! With a screwdriver in the litle slot, that was made for removing the switches!!!!! Then you can remove the plug and do it properly!
