right as i was driving this evening i noticed that when i put my indicators on, they would stop blinking when i pressed the brake. when i got home i checked the rest of my lights and basically when i indicate the rear lights start blinking as well, whats worse is that the inidactor on the other side will also blink very slightly.
confused with this, where would i start to check first
-
That would be a bad ground
-
Sounds like a dodgy earth connection on the rear lights. Check them out. Cheers Deano
-
what would cause a bad earth connection???
also sorry for my stupidity where is the earth connection on the rear lights???
-
Dodgy earths could be caused by either the connections getting dirty or the earth leads breaking or just simply coming loose. You should find the earth leads near the light fittings in the boot. It will bolt onto the body right by the light. Cheers Deano

cheers mate will have a look tomorrow
-
definately bad earth.
mate had a same issue, he just re earthed it. no issues with his now.

while your there check the rear light seals, circuit board for the bulbs and the wiring connector as the gaskets are useless with age (and even worse with some aftermarket lights!)
-
right just checked the earth connection, clean the contact points but still no luck.
any other ideas??
-
check the circuit board on the bulb holder as boney says.
-
just a lil update, it was the circuit board on the passenger side which was screwed, managed to pick one up from the local scrappy, so my lights a back to full working order
-
glad you got it fixed mate, if you can, or if a mod can, thenn it might be a good idea to put (NOW SOLVED) in the topic title. To help others find the helpfull thread if they have the same problem

There is already plenty of info on this common problem. Electricity will always take the easiest route to earth and if it cant get the easiest direct route it will take the next easiest route which is through another bulb to earth which is why you get these wierd things happening.

I know that, but others may not. As most people encourage new forum users to use the search function i suggested it for siad new commers benefit.

Who is going to search for now solved and what are the chances of it being the same solution in fact i would say that (pcb problem) is quite a rare instance of a bad earth more common for it to be the actual earth connection.

i didn't say change the title to "now solved" mearly add it to the title!! then if someone searches for indicator problems they would find this, see that it was a solved case and read it first instead of trawling through hundreds of posts that were never solved.

They pretty much all get solved bad earth common fault with confusing symptoms untill someone explains but easy to fix nevertheless just search for any such threads not necessarily this one.
-
right well after a couple of days of normal lights, its f**ked up again!!!
changed both circuit boards, new earth connections and still none the wiser.
anyone give anymore info as to what it could be, dnt wanna be driving the car when its like this
-
You need to keep looking it will be the earth, did you give the metal a good scrape when you put new connectors on?
-
yeah gave all the connections a good clean before reconnecting.
the cars booked in for some work next tuesday, so ill get them to have a look at it.
got an r32 in the mean time
