anyone else verify this?

I missed the word fan off of that.

got another issue, the car wont tick over when its cold. it would require a fair bit of revving when you start until it stays on otherwise will just cut out. anyone know what the issue is here? my guess is a sensor? relays were all checked and are fine.

Good place to start would be to clean the throttle body. Take off the intake pipe and clean out with carb or brake cleaner.
Then if that doesn't work make sure your ISV valve is working, you should be able to hear it buzzing.
Then perhaps it could be your water temp sensor.

i've got this same problem. have tried a few things and nothing sorted it yet. it only lasts for a minute or two when the car is started from cold (then i presume a sensor heats up enough to provide a good enough signal) and then the car runs fine. keep me posted if you find anything. my car is a 2.0 8v gti, agg engine, so that may make my problem slightly different.

does the 16v have a cold start switch or anything of the kind?
