Title: Park Assist does it only work on one side?
Post by: p3asa on 30 September 2009, 10:07
Not having ordered park assist or being interested in it as I thought it was a dear gimmick, does it work on both sides of the car or just near side?

Yes, it does. More than a gimmick though - it's part of the gradual automation of driving.

You would think they would just have enabled it for both sides, for all it would have taken. Plus it would have enabled the bumper to be used right across the range instead of just on RHD cars.

I'm astounded!! I never contemplated getting it, though, seeing as how I have been parallel parking by myself for nearly 30 years with no difficulty.

It parks either side.  If you want the right hand side then you move the indicator stalk over to the right.  Left hand side is default

If your not interested Passa, why ask??

Is that directed at me?
Just because I am not interested doesn't mean I'm not allowed to voice my opinion. The forums would be a bore if that was the case and we would never have had a DSG v manual thread for that matter.

I wouldn't get it either. But in 30 years you might have people on the roads who have never parked a car by themselves... or changed gear either

Not interested in the gadget, but interested in the reply to his question; at least that's how I interpreted his post.

It is both sides, you drive past the space with the indicator on and it then guides you in for extra £80 or what ever it is it is worth having just for the shock value when you have others in the car.

Cheers guys. I haven't seen a golf with the park assist in the flesh so didn't know if they had 4 big chunks out the bumpers or just 2.
It makes sense to have the 4.

It's all good stuff.
The sooner gear changing is made illegal the better.
Top gear overtakers with 30 bhp at 1500 rpm are to blaim.  Why should these manual gearbox cheapskates endanger all of our lives?
