Less than £19K for a brand new ED30 with DSG does sound like a bargain, it must be said.

Just traded a fully loaded ED30 with 37,000 miles in for a MK6 for £15,700 and they sold it within days for £17,000 and my wife had dented that down one side and 2 wheels were kerbed.

Thats interesting to know, as I was wondering what we would get for our ED30 which has done 28k against a new Mk6 GTI.

When you say fully loaded what was the spec?

Great price and a good buy for keeping 3-4 years where some of the depreciation is offset by the discount.

However, where are these cars coming from, are they UK spec ??

I remember Motorpoint selling Fiat Punto Sportings, that were supposed to have 130bhp 1.9 engines, theirs had 100bhp 1.3s as they were sourced in Ireland !

DSG, Xenons, Ipod connection, DVD sat nav, bluetooth obviously heated seats etc. I have bought a lot of cars through them but seemed to be the going rate.

Gti starts at £23k so your actually only saving 5k.

For an older model, a grandaddy gearbox, more turbo lag only 20 extra bhp. Sounds like a no brainer to me

erm remap?

2 can play that game... now 30 bhp more??

It will still always be worth 5k less than the newer model so there really isnt much saving to be had unless your modding further, or prefer the MK5. etto

Depends, i can see the mk6 being forgotten about as its nothing new over the mk5.
Will be the equivalent mk3/mk4 in a few years time. The ED30 is a special edition anniversary model, will hold its value better in the long run! Mk4 annis are still fetching £9k!

The ED30 gets 330bhp i thought, the mk6 is 270 isnt it? Thats a lot more than 30bhp difference!

The ED30 has the engine from the new Golf R.
The Mk6 has a new lightweight eco model.
Tweaked up these are the figures to be expected.

mk5 is belt, yep.
mk6 GTI is chain but MK6 R belt, IIRC

ed30 + remap = 280-290bhp
mk6 gti + remap = 260-270bhp

So not a huge difference. but the mk6 engine is alot more economical when your just tootling along. i can easily see above 40mpg in light traffic. not to mention lower tax band, new shape, better interior, and electronic diff (or whatever you want to call it).

The only reason you would buy the old shape is if you prefer it, or are going be modding to the extreme

I think if you modded a mk6 similarly you wouldn't be far off those figures, that's stage2 map, exhuast etc.

Anyway, more than 270 odd horses through a front wheel drive car doesn't sound like a spectacularly good idea.

340 horses out of an ED30 is bonkers though, well done that man!

Have to agree... im not sure I want to remap mine now as all it wants to do is spin its wheels :undecided: (but probably will anyway )

anything more than 250 would be a big issue unless there is a diff fitted, but as we know alot of the ed30 boys are all pushing more than 300bhp anyway. Has to be an R32 + turbo or Golf R + modds to really be a perfect car.

Im finding my MKVI struggling against old shape Clio sports. Im only just going past at a snails pace. 2 ive had trouble beating off however I seem to be cornering alot better and tighter then the clio's new and old. Just need a remap sooner rather then later I feel

Clio 182 is about 6.4 to 60 so not suprising really! There very little between two cars with a second difference to 60 or 2 secs difference to 100! Its around half a car length on the 60 run and around 1 car length to 100!
