Hi all,
I have the 510 plus Dynaudio option fitted
I use my ipod with it a lot.
I have a problem that when I select the 'Songs' option and the list of songs come up that when I select a song its not the one that gets played. Weird this is that for example if I select a song at the top of the list (starting with an 'A') it plays songs by ACDC, when I select a song starting with 'B' it plays badly drawn boy.
However if I select songs by going through 'Artist' then pick the album and then pick the song it plays the right thing??
Do any of you get the same issue, want to check before I go back to VW and report it
thanks
paul

I've just got the 310, but iPod tracks are an arcane mystery to me.
It seems hell-bent on organising every track in alphabetical order no matter which CD or playlist it come from. With the music I've got, that means random tracks from Wagner's Ring mixed in with random tracks from Handel's Messiah and random tracks from The Magic Flute, and indeed random tracks from every opera, oratorio, symphony, cantata and whatever, that I own.
This seems to be its default setting, and it starts to play without waiting to be told, so if I'm starting from scratch, I'm forced to listen to a particular track from Parsifal that just happens to start with the word "Aber", every single time. Getting out of that and into the playlists menu isn't easy, and then, once a playlist is finished, it's all to do again to find another playlist. (Unless you want to listen to the same playlist on a repeating loop, which it will do if you don't stop it.)
It's probably the way the iPod is designed in the first place, but you'd think the designers would realise that most people want to listen to an album or a playlist, not to have random traks handed to them in arbtrary alphabetical order.

have you not got the option of selecting by artist / album on yours ?
i want to use the 'song' option (which lists them alphabetically) because my girlfriend likes reading down a list of songs to select one rather than looking by artist (you see some songs you would have forgotten about otherwise)
anyone got my problem (even if you haven't want to hear from you to confirm that mine is not working properly)

an impatient one aren't you?

I only want to use the Playlist option, because most of the pieces of music I have on there are more than one CD long - most of the stuff I like is 2 or 3 CDs (one is 14). The playlist lets me string them together.
The "Songs" thing drives me nuts. It just seems to assume every track is a "song", and off it goes. It takes me long enough to scroll through my playlists, never mind scrolling through that many tracks, even if they were all separate songs. I suspect your way, you'll never hear the ones that begin with W....
I can give it a shot, trying to select a track from the Songs menu, and see if it gives me the one I select, though. I'll get back to you.

cheers rolfe
and yes keelaw i am, apologies

haha - no worries.
i have the 510 but don't own an ipod. i've used the selector with an SD card and no issues picking for me.
sounds like a faulty unit you've got there tbh. if its not picking the song you select, then sounds faulty to me!

With the old school MFD2 sat nav in the mk5 with Ipod integration, when you plug the ipod in it displays 6 'CD's' for you to choose from. Picking CD 1 to 5 picks the first five playlists which you have set up and picking CD6 just plays the entire contents of the ipod in alpabetical order (of songs) unless you have chosen 'mix' which plays them randomly.
I appreciate the RNS / RCD's are completely different but it sounds like the same old crap methodology is at work ...

I've just tried it, and on my 310 system, if I go into that poxy "songs" menu, it does in fact play any track I select.
I don't know why yours doesn't do that, but it seems like a fault in the software to me. If you've got your music all backed up, you could try resetting the iPod back to factory settings then reloading the music. (if that's a big hassle, don't, because it's only a suggestion and it might have nothing to do with that.)
Is it playing the first track alphabetically under that particular letter of the alphabet, no matter which song you select? it sounds as if that's what you're describing.

I don't even know how to get it to play the ipod?
I've got the 510 (I think) with the dvd nav etc.. it has an aux port and a media in port.. what do i do to get it to play songs from my ipod/phone?
Cheers

Get your dealer to supply you with an iPod lead. This connects to the port in the armrest, with the other end connecting to the iPod. Select the "Media" button on your 510 and you should see the Ipod contents. Only works if you have the dedicated armrest with the media/aux sockets!

thanks Rolfe, looks like it may be my Ipod, going to try someone else's, if that works then will reset mine, if it doesn't then I'll report the fault to VW
cheers
