Post by: D Squared on 27 September 2009, 09:48
as said, thinking about getting rid of my Passat, and looking at the possibility of a MK5 GTi...

What do i need to look out for? is there any common faults? different specs etc?

Any help would be appreciated..

There's also the Pirelli edition which is essentially the Edition 30 but with Pirelli tread pattern on the seats and Pirelli alloys (and tyres I guess).

Of the Pirelli?

These are the new wheels:

and these are the seats:

FYI that yellow isn't available in the UK.

Im not a great fan of the seats or wheels and much prefer the BBS CHs on the ED30, but then again you cant please everyone.

If you look at some of the earley ones 05 reg AXX engine code get it nice & warm & then listen to the tick over.A gentle clicking noise is normal(direct injection) BUT if it sounds like a diesel then i'm shure it will be the timing chain & tensioner thats knackered (mine has just been replaced).Other than that there a great car & i love mine.

thanks for that..it will be an early one i'm after

how much did it cost you to get the chain replaced? was it part of a schedule? or was there a problem with it?

I traded in my Passat for a GTI.

The Passat was a great all-rounder. The GTI is better. Much Better.

Can anyone help with the differences in specifications on the different standard GTI Model Years or a link to them? I was having a look on golfmk5.com and they mentioned cam follower problems? What's that about and is it applicable to UK cars? On the same site they also seem to favour 06 and later cars (they all seem annoying though hence me posting here not there :)) is there anything in that? Thanks for your help!
