I got really dispondent about my Monza's looking crap ! I can't get anyone down here in Cornwall to diamond cut them ,they all want to respray them.
This morning I had a quick go at on of the main spoke sections and rubbing in the direction of rotaion with a flexible sanding block, I was amazed how easy the laquer could be removed it's so thin.
I continued to sand the spoke and soon had a good finish and applied laquer, it now looks superb, so will try to do a Whole wheel next.
Can anyone give any tips and what is the toughest laquer to use in your experience.

Got an pics of your DIY job? Im intrigued to see what it looks like.

Will take some before and after pics when iv'e done the job ,just trying to find a really tough laquer to make sure it doesn't break down on the surface!

Refurb complete!
Anyone tell me how to get pics onto here!

Thats a great job you have done there pal!!
Sounds like you have identified a business opportunity down there in Cornwall/Devon :nerd:
-
Cost less than forty quid!
Took 12 hours and has transformed the car ,I don't have money to spare at the moment so am well chuffed and it was sooo easy to do.
Thanks for help with the pics as well. I stuck the nuts onto the board and then poped the nut covers on and sprayed them,I know they are cheap to buy ,but you can have them any colour you like, Simples!

You done a great job! :afro:

Yea' well pleased ,nice to wash the car and see water beading on the gleaming laquer.
I have just had a major op on my right arm and had to do it with one hand ! nearly b-gge-d up my arm when taking the first wheel off, they are so blooming heavy. ( I am right handed)
I see why it is a good idea to buy an extended wheel bolt now!!!

Do you mean the extended wheel spigot 'tommy bar' helper thingymajig? Like the poxy black plastic thing in the boot?
Try getting one (or two, if you have big brakes) of these - 7L0 012 223 - made from aluminium, 140mm long. Awesome GTI sell them for about £14 each, or you can get them from your local stealer for about £4 each. Superb addition.
-
No! never knew that plastic one existed, I didn't use anything !
Us 60 year olds have a lot to learn.

It should be in the polystyrene tool tray under the boot floor carpet. About four inches long, one end has a thread, and the other end has a hole to insert the screwdriver blade (so you can tighten it). But they are fairly pants, hence why I suggested the much longer, and far more sturdy aluminium one - RedRobin (also in your 'age bracket') uses one.

Ahh . . . and don't you also need additional 'help' at that age?

Where did Redrobin get his Age Bracket from is it an OEM part, I bet he's modified it already!!!
Maybe we could set up a group buy for this item.
-
Red got his (I think) from AwesomeGTI, but they are genuine VW/Audi parts, and are available from official dealers - at about a 10th of the price which Awesome were selling them for. Just phone up your local stealer and ask them to order this part number: 7L0 012 223
