Title: Which bits would you nick from the R for your GTI?
Post by: FroGTI on 26 September 2009, 10:32
There are many parts I actually prefer on the GTI (front fog lights, black side skirt, wide split exhaust pipes, etc), but these are on my shortlist for when the R part numbers become available in a few weeks

1. black xenons
(http://www.golfgti6.com/r_xenons.jpg)

2. front splitters (if they are separate and fit the GTI skirt)

3. and of course, the rear LED lights
(http://www.golfgti6.com/r_rearlights.jpg)

Anything I have overlooked? Don't say the engine

agree re: the rear lights, but i'm not overly fussed about them.

the LED DRLs are quite nice and the alloys are the other thing i could be tempted by.  At the same time, I do think that I want to keep my GTI pretty much as is since I want to retain the GTI character

Only the LED's. there's nothing else on the R that I wish was on the GTI.

Recaros

1)Rear LED lights
2)Rising Blue paint colour (i wish that had been available on the GTI  ).
+) I would take the wheels from the scirocco but have them with the correct offset.

Nothing else interests me, the GTI+xenons does everything else i want and need.

The Rising Blue paint job.

I'd like to add another vote for the blue paint.
And the rear lights.

I quite like the blue needles too, and the colour of the stitching on the leather bits, and the dash trims, and the front bumper that doesn't have silly Dracula fangs and ............

Tail lights, but prefer the GTI xenons.
Rising blue paint.
Maybe the 19 inch wheels but I think BBS's will suit the GTI better.
Custom LED DRL's instead of fog lights.

I prefer the front bumper on the GTI, but like the cleaner rear bumper on the R with the reflectors in the diffuser - except with wide-spaced exhausts.

Would have to be the tail lights and DRLs

rear bumper on the R with the reflectors in the diffuser
I had never noticed that until you pointed it out. Thanks

5. 4wd - probably the only thing that cant be retro fitted without big expense

I've decided that as I've listed nearly all of the parts off the R that what I'd actually like would be the salary to be able to afford an R

Rising blue paint - I'd love a GTI in that shade!

I think it could be me, but do the normal GTi rear lamps look like this, on the vid around 6.35 from the IAA? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evSorFW63YI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evSorFW63YI)

They look like the LED rear lamps from the R to me.

Looks like LED to me as well. Good spot!

Interesting topic, well done for suggesting it!!!

I'd take the following:

Oh, sh1t, I think I've specified everything the R has over the standard GTI. Maybe I'll just get an R and that's that. Truth is I really like what the R offers over and above the standard GTI. What I don't like is the outrageous price hike. Still trying to decide whether it's worth it. Real case of heart and head disagreeing.

Well we don't know 100% yet what the UK pricing is like. Probably going to be a bit of a shock, but until it's set in stone there's a glimmer of hope.

Wonder if that means the GTI will gain LED tail lamps in 2010...

Is this part of the MY2010 changes then?

Bloody hell, my GTI is only 6 weeks old and they've brought out a facelift (or should that be ar$elift?) already

Again could be my eye sight but does that GTD also have rear LED lamps?

I'm thinking it must be a MY2010 update on GTi and GTD models, they don't look as dark as the R lamps though.

Re: LED rear lights on 2010 Golf GTI.

Well spotted! Now all they need to do is add Rising Blue as a colour option and 19" alloys, and we'll all be happy!!!!

I wonder if rear LED's will be an additional part of xenon light visibility package or a separate optional light package designed to extract more cash from us?

Is it me, or are the existing GTI alloys way too BLING and generally unattractive? I'd love to see other alloy options. I agree that the Scirocco alloys are nicer. Just a set of simple five arm, double spoke wheels, al-la-R8, would suit the Golf very nicely.

Just my luck

I noticed on that video @ 6:16 that the silver GTI also has keyless ignition too!

Typical

Keyless is deffo on the MY2010 changes, so this looks good news. Well for those that havn't yet recieved delivery.

Got to admit its the the little things like these that are swaying me to get a new mk6 GTi sooner, and not bother about the R.

A couple of things:

1. if the LED rear lights & keyless start become available, it will normally be on cars manufactured on or after May 1, 2010, as this is when VW normally implements all the tweaks for the coming model year. Officially, they will be 2011 models (my GTI is officially a 2010 model).

2. Rising Blue paint. Don't you think we all like it precisely because we can't have it? I drove past a Rising Blue Scirocco this morning and TBH, away from motor show spotlights and studio lighting, it's not that nice looking.

I was hugely disappointed by the colour options on the GTi.  The Blue Graphite is OK, but it's really too dark for my taste.  In the sticky thread about the German colour options (the 2020 Euro paint jobs), it was lighter metallic blues I was mainly looking at.  I'm not sure if Rising Blue was one of the ones I checked in the end, but I really think VW gave us a very poor choice and if Rising Blue had been added to the GTi options I'd probably have gone for it.

Rolfe.

ETA:  I see no sign of Rising Blue on that list.  The one I think I'd have gone for, subject to seeing actual samples, was Ravenna Blue.

Is it just me, or does putting the LED tail lights on the GTI kind of spoil the R - after all the press releases saying it has exclusive LED tail lights!

I agree... rising blue looks great in the motor shows, but I'm not so keen on it in real life.  As both the Roc R and Golf R are being marketed in rising blue, I won't be picking it - as its the colour everyone will pick... just like most R32's were DBP.
