Title: My Mk4 Has Had The R-Tech Touch
Post by: Grand Master Patch on 25 September 2009, 21:51
As many of you know i had planned to take my AGU to stage2 using the R-tech map.

So today Pat and myself headed down early this morning,we arrived a little early so hung around until everybody turned up.First things first Ben made us a brew(very good start),and we chatted for a bit while they were setting up for the day ahead of them.Once everything was clear they didn't mess about and my car was straight onto the ramps.I was still a little low to make it onto the rollers so they quickly raised me up another 40mm,and got it to sit on.Nick had a quick look under the bonnet to check everything was ok and gave it it's first run with the Custom Code map and the ko3s turbo and other bolt on mods i've added since the map.

It made 212 bhp at the flywheel with 217 ftlbs torque The R-tech team worked their magic and started to check my car for any faults before they uploaded the new map.A quick check was showing a dv and throttle body fault.Ben cleaned the throttle body(which was filthy) and Nick set about the dv.After testing it wasn't holding vacuum, a quick clean inside and all was well. When they were 100% happy they uploaded their map and gave it another run.We were stood outside but could tell something had changed just by the engine note,it sounded more aggressive in the high revs. The results came out of the printer..............

229 bhp and 227 ftlbs torque I was more than happy with the results, but Nick and the team didn't like the torque level and started to investigate why it was lower than they expected. They started to take parts from each others cars and gave it a run each time to find the problem,i think it ran with 3 different types of N75 and a few runs with a couple of mafs.During all these tests runs it made 231bhp at some point, but i don't have a print out of that. They came to the conclusion it was a weak actuator that couldn't handle the boost and was keeping the torque lower than expected.

Went out in it for a spin with Nick and plant my right foot bam......................The power difference doesn't sound that much, but trust me it fecking fast.It must have something to do with the way the power comes in,but it feels almost like a N/A engine. Not much down the bottom end(see the above torque problem),but when it hits 3500-4000 rpm all hell breaks loose. It shoves you back into the seat and will hold you there right up to the redline Once i fit a new actuator it should give me another 15-20 ftlbs torque.

If anybody out there is thinking about a remap,be it stage1 ,stage2 or more i can't stress how much i recommend R-tech for both their maps and customer service.Give them a call and trust me you won't be disappointed .

Oh the fun i had on the way home

I'm after ko3s as well mate, but it seems hard to find one and those figures are quite impressive. Lets see how long will it take me to get it done.

You must be one happy guy on your way back smoking everyone else

Top day with a nice bunch of lads.. and not a mondeo remap to be seen. If you know anyone with a smoke tester it might be worth a shot.. it could show up something hidden away. (..and i dont mean dipstick boost  )

Hello m8,

Sorry I had to shoot off early to collect the kids, Bloody traffic on M6 and around Wolverhampton made me 90 mins late so my mum missed here train back to Blackpool..oops.. :embarassed:

Did you hit the trafic on the M6 or did you play on the toll road?

I am glad your happy with the remap on your car, not massive peak bhp gains but better useable power to play with.   It would be nice to find that missing 2psi at the peak of the boost over shoot which should see you close on 240lbft.

Thanks again for your custom have fun and enjoy your power..  I will see you when you have your K04..lol

What did you think of the big ass rear arb?

Fecking brilliant!!!  Thats the first Golf I have been in which has over steer like a M3.  I need to join the club and buy a Golf, but I am worried it will become a money pit like my Calibra. I would want 270+bhp and for it to go sideways like yours..

Rear ARBs FTW!!

Seriously, does anyone have a bad experience at R-Tech?!

Absolutely top company, top staff and excellent results!

Welcome to the club :-)

Nick, you need to get more stickers in. We all need them on our cars to show we're part of an exclusive elite... Although, I guess the smiles on our faces give us away!

I went for the AGU as it's much easier to work with and has less pipes and sensors and decent coilpacks that cause nothing but problems on the later models

Yup same as I did the other day mate, it will come

devilz not sure mate, see if they can give you the part numbers that should be on the turbo and I'll look on ETKA for you. Be wary though, I think a few people have been caught out with supposed genuine brand new K04s and they've turned out to be copies that don't fit properly
