you waited a whole 20 mins before you bumped this!  mr patient

i'm guessing you shouldn't have a problem, the track name comes up on the screen from my ipod, as does songs from cd's that i've put onto the ipod.  there is no reason why if you burned songs from itunes to a cd the name shouldn't appear.

Isn't there?  Does the track as burned to a CD retain the associated text, even though there would be no such text if you had bought the item as a CD?

Tell you what - try it and see!

The text isn't there if you buy the CD.  If you load an actual CD to an iPod using your computer, iTunes will find the textual information that matches it from its own resources, and add that in.  If you copy a CD without having an internet connection, all you'll get is "track 1" "track 2" and so on.

iTunes however does incorporate that information in the file.  So, it's probable that if you then burn that file, or a file bought from the iStore which will also have the same information, to another CD, the information will be retained.  The question is, will it be read by the CD player in the same way it will be read by your iPod?  That's what I don't know.

Try it.

I took some songs off the interent and onto an SD card. All the song info came up fine

One small issue though. Since some were off albums, the rcd510 sorts the playlist alphabetically, which means that all the 1s are together, all the 2s etc etc.

You didn't notice my rant about that in the thread about iPods and the RCD 310?

I can do it all again from memory if you like!

Why not use WMP which which get both the artist name and track info for you from the net... even is the CD does not have it.

Apple and their ipod crap pffft

What your asking for is, is the TAG info in the track. If its not got it, its very easy to add your own.

I use a little program called Tag & Rename. It works great and only costs $30. I'm betting there are some free versions of similar software.

To answer your question yes if you buy them from iTunes they will definately show on the RCD510.

iTunes does that.  It's just that the filenames and information formatting are inconsistent and sometimes downright annoying.

I don't know, they may be OK for pop music, but the iPod designers don't have a clue how people listen to classical music.  Why should I be interested in every track being randomly shuffled, or put in alphabetical order?  It's insane.

Rolfe you can get that info from CD, its called CD TEXT and been about for years. Sony usually include it as do other manufacturers.

Before mp3's became popular in the car, i used to alwAys make sure my head units had this feature. It doesnt sound much now but back 10 / 15 years ago it certainly was impressive.

It worked fine on my old Kenwood head unit and my wifes pioneer head unit. I think Sony pioneered the technology but it wasnt exclusive to them. Most if not all PC cd rewriters have CD TEXT and most burning apps allow you to burn it also.
