Title: VW Customer Support = crap?
Post by: ifti on 23 September 2009, 11:21
I have had my GTI Edition 30 for over 6 months now.

I have been chasing VW in regards to my plaque for over 6 months now.

Every time I ring I get the same rubbish - "they are sent out in batches, sir".

I finally rang last week with the hump. Told em it had been over 6 months, and that I was originally told 3 months. The guy checked something and said there had been a problem there end, and that he was forwarding the issue to the Team Leader. He stated I should receive the letter within the next few days. Told him I had heard all this rubbish many times before, but he said I had to wait.

Waited a few days - still nothing.

I just rang back again today. Got some lady telling me "they are sent out in batches and you have to wait".
So I informed her I had been waiting over 6 months, and that I wanted to speak to the Team Leader who was apparently dealing with my case. She said I would need to wait for the letter first before they could do anything with the plaque.
I then asked whether that means I wait for the letter, then wait another 3 months for a bloody plaque??

She then put me on hold.
Came back and told me that she had referred the case onto another person, who dealt with the plaques.
I asked if I could speak to that person, and she said I couldnt and that the woman was 'very good at her job' and will get back to me in a week.
Apparently they are going to try to see if they can send me the plaque without waiting for the letter.

I then asked to be put through to complaints, so I could make a formal complaint.

She replied with 'this is complaints, but you cant make a complaint until you have received the plaque'!!!!!!

She then stated that they will definately get back to me in a week.

Just as she was about to go, I had to say - well how are you going to get back to me?!
The woman paused for a second, and I had to tell her to take my number down!!!

I mean come on, seriously, over 6 months for a bloody letter and plaque??
I dont even want the metal thing - just want to know what biuld number I am!!!

The customer support is absolute bullsh!t. Im going to give it a week, and if they dont get back to me I'm gonna ring em and be doubly pissed!

/rant over.

Why should I give in and forget it when its down to the sh!t customer service from VW?
I mean, even my previous Ford customer service was better then this!

I rang them about October last year, as I hadn't got a letter, got my plaque through the post early in the year, about 3 months after ringing them.

I received the letter stating I would be receiving a plaque last week.

Wonder if I will receive a second plaque!!

Head office support for most brands is poor.
It's when you have a inconsiderate, lazy, incompetent, untruthful, and rude local dealer that's really worse (I once owned a Fiat).

Well it's about VW honouring the promise they made to their customers. The Edition 30 was allegedly limited to 1500 cars, VW ended up making over 2000. To makeup for their error they promised to all Edition 30 customers a numbered plaque. Now VW is having problems sending simple plaques to their customers.

It's not about the value of the plaques it's about the way VW treats their customers.

even at 1500 it's hardly rare.

You need to get the names of the people you are dealing with, its better if you can say when you complain "betty swollocks from the plaque department told me in a week" than saying" some woman or bloke told me this "

I wrote to VW regarding the service history of my recently purchased GTi and within a week they responded and have agreed to do a brake fluid change and the cambelt work FOC.

Quite happy with that

there really is no consistency.  I have had my plaque for about a year now, and earlier this month received another letter telling me about a plaque I was entitled to!

not good VW!!

Just got my car back from VW after having its cambelt and waterpump done - apart from trying to sell me new tyres at extortionate rates, I was very pleased with the service in total, pleasant people - and the car was washed inside and out with no extra charge (as I was used to with BMW)

£500 was still a difficult bill to swallow though!

Nobody ever said the Ed30 was goning to be rare!  VW just said they would only make 1500 - and then they made a lot more - and didn't have the decency to advise existing (and potentially new) Ed30 owners.

Both myself and the local dealer had a nightmare dealing with the VW customer services. We were trying to find out about the LEd lights on the back of the new mk6 GTI, they advised no idea and no plans in the UK, and if it ever was would be an option and not standard (how could they know the latter if they didn't know if they were bound for the UK!).
Dealer somehow got it escallated to .de and came back as LED's for UK as an option in furture but not at this point in time (i.e to see if my car would have them or not). I asked when details of the 2010 spec would be released, they didn't know any details as yet or when they would be released.
Also I called up a few days later  to ask for details re the sound generator (is it electronic like the reviews or what?) They couldn't answer.

Ok you don't expect customer services to know everything, but being able to answer SOMETHING would be good.for me it seemed like I'd called up faulty towers (I know nothing.....), at least they answered VW customer service so guess they got the VW bit right!

This is why the next car I buy I wanna get from a company that has uber-fantastic customer satisfaction.

I hear Audi are very good in this respect. Any truth?

5 years of BMW ownership for me was flawless, simply fantastic customer service. But I suppose its all down to the dealership a lot of the time

Hmmm....the recent fiasco with BMW 19" rims and the attitude of BMW is what has put me off them.

Mate, the service doesn't get any better in Australia-I've been waiting three plus weeks to get back to me about fixing my tinting (which has specklng and creases in it throughout the car) which cost me $800aus?! And don't get me started on the actual deal itself...! Love my car to bits and that's why they didn't lose the deal, but would be very hesitant to recommend this particular dealership to anybody!! :undecided:
