i guess even on the mk4 u bleed them the same way as the old skool golfs?
took my rear axle off to do the bushes man they were tough work getting the oold one out and easy as hell getting the vrs ones in went gave the axle a little file once the old ones where out and cleaned up the holes lined the new bushes up and then went in snug with the hammer wasted time getting the bloody press set up b@st@rd heavy thing! bugger cutting the old outer bush shim with a bow saw takes days started doing it with a new blade aswell and didnt get no where ended up using a makita 110v saw which slices steel like cheese took two seconds then banged it out with the chisel!
fitted it back up and obviously all the oil drained out the lines, spent 1 hour bleeding them with over half a litre of dot 4 with my old man pumping the brake but still soft and pedal sinks to the bottom. left it for tonight as it got dark got my 40mm lowering kit on today to, rears were easy the front ones were a night mare the :evil: drivers side driveshaft bolt on the hub wouldnt undo snapped my disc secure screw as i forgot to thread a wheel bolt through the disc and all the pressure when on it and pinged off :angry: all done though so happy now the car is sitting lower :smug:

do you bleed the master cyl first then do furthest caliper to nearest in order rear pas, rear driv, front pass then front driv side?

Ah, that maybe where you're going wrong. It doesn't look it from the surface, but the rear O/S caliper is the furthest in terms of pipe-work. ;)

Go to halfords and get an eezi bleed, trust me mk4 brakes are a mare to do, the wheels must beon the ground and if you have let the fluid bleed though then it will probabley need an abs bleed. My first port of call after having a mare with 2 golfs doing this is to get an eezi bleed and see how that goes.

So what order to bleed then? Also do you have to bleed the reservoir? I'm doing my braided lines soon so would be helpful to know :wink:

i put 2 lires of dot 4 through myne, proper flush and have a nice hard pedal, started o/s/r then n/s/r the n/s/f then o/s/f

i just put new pads on and managed to bleed the system did the m/c first then rear pass rear drv then fr pass then fr drv side now its good and stiff on the pedal. went for a run in it power is low seems like the brakes are holding it down and bit of smoke coming from the rears. you think the pads are wearing to my discs as i didnt change the discs?

sounds like the caliper is sticking on. I'd recheck the rear brakes or you'l end up warping the disc. Did you wind in the piston all the way before you put the new pads in.
