car just passed mot and VW told me my brake pads are 80% worn..what pads should i be replacing them with? thanks in advance

If you only do regular road use and your car is stock, stick with the OEM ones. If you do trackdays or your car is even mildly modded then you can put on DS2500 pads or Pagid fast road pads. EBC do aftermarket pads too
-
Thanks for reply! The car is stock so OEM should do..where can I get hold of them and about how much should they be?
-
Are they front or rear?
If just front, the tarox strada pads will be a good upgrade on the oem ones as it's got more bite.

Is it going to stay Stock?
if so then just go to the dealers and order them from their parts dept, or you could use Euro car parts online. Pads shouldn't set you back much more than £100 for both the front and rears.
As Bacillus says you could go for TAR-OX Strada pads. They wear well and have a low dust release, but are around £80-£90 for the fronts.

VW dealer.
There are so many counterfeit pads around it's not worth the saving going anywhere else.

Has anyone tried the VW Racing Uprated Brake Pads?
http://www.volkswagenracing.co.uk/Golf%205%20Pages/Golf%20Brake%20Pads.html
Considering upgrading to these to keep things slightly more OEM than going for a completely stand-alone brand. Any one have any experience of these?
Thanks

Unfortunately its front and rear that I need. Yeh think its gonna stay stock for the forseeable future...
-
If you are replacing the discs I have a set of new genuine VW rear discs for a GTI, yours for £40 to your door?
-
Sorry just the pads im after!
-
EBC do aftermarket pads too
EBC pads are best avoided - some serious issues with quality!

Sorry just the pads im after!
It will be discs next time then. Discs these days need changing every second pad change - at best!

Does £230 fitted by VW for front and rear sound about right?
-
Yeah that sounds about right fitted at a dealer but why not save yourself £130 and fit them yourself
-
It really is worth finding a local VAG place and getting friendly with them. Thats what I have done and its saved me a fortune in labour costs, VW or any dealer of any make just pull everyones pants down with labour cost.

I think they go a bit further than that...

My sisters next door neighbour is a tech for VW & does all my normal servicing for me.
