tempted to d-arch, never ust to be cean on d-arched look but love it now. what would you prefer if you had a gti?
if i decided i wanted to d-arch my golf is it a simple case of removing arches and front/rear door arches off and replacing with cl arches. what about front bumper and rear bumper do i then need to just get these colour coded or dose it mean buying bumpers that dont have the black plastic bits on them? im tempted to remove all my arches and go for a vr6 high line look but the thing that puts me off is my golf is a gti so i dont like the idea of making it look like somthing it aint. :)
-
*can-o-worms* keep the arches as they make the car what it is!
-
If you ask on here they will say keep them, myself don't like them and I removed them on mine, all you need by the way is a set of CL side trims, I went further on mine including CL bumpers and no side skirts etc.
Pictures if it helps.

Arches are good when they stand out next to the car, with your colour I would take them off ( you can always put them back on if the tin worm have been feeding)
-
whats the dif between cl bumpers and gti bumpers? i do like arches and also think its what seperates the mk3 gti to every other mk3 but i dont think the arches suit the colour of my car that great.

CL bumpers are plain black plastic, hard to find as well took me ages to find a pair in good condition.
-
Depends. I think they give it a sporty look, without I think it's a clean/smooth look.
-
I was thinking about de-arching, but I couldn't get round to loosing the arches. Gives the car a meaner more aggressive look. Think of cars nowadays, most if not all have no arches, so when you see one with arches, it's like
-
Dark car = De-arched
Light car = Arches
-
Leave them on.
I think, if the car came with them from factory, they should be left on.
My 1.4 SE came with arches and skirts and I loved the green and black theme it had going on!
My 1.6 CL didn't come with arches and skirts, and I feel it looks fine as it is.

+1 white and silver looks spot on with arches.
-
mines purple and looks better with the arches i think,
as said, more aggressive!
-
Dearched for the win. If I had a red GTi, white GTi or blue GTi I'd have them on, otherwise no.
-
De arch every time!
-
haha litrally just de-arched 30 mins ago, no rust under arches so was impressed, just gotta get my dg paint pen on bare metal where rivets were sat! Much prefer without just need to get the blanks

Looks much tidier if you replace all the side trims with cl spec.
-
are the cl blanks a different size?

Yes, GTI trim is a lot taller.
-
I have a red GTI, it's staying on.
If the black contrasts the colour of the body, leave them, failing that take them off.

Yes, GTI trim is a lot taller.
why cant u get gti blanks, argh means I have to trace a full cl trim

Look on ebay, I got 2 complete Vento sets for £35 and made one good set.

thanx for or the replys guy's and i deffo agree with most of you when you say keep the arches if it suits colour of the car. but the thing with my car it suits and dont suit, with my car swaping and changing its colour more than a blooming chameleon lol ill let the pic's do the talking. then you can tell me wether you recon mine would look better D-arched.

see i recon it suits when it looks purple :smug: but dont suit when it looks brown
-
keep them...
-
Shift them.
-
Chuck them and give them to me in return for the CL bit's you need.
-
Without, would like sweet on that colour.
-
Chuck them and give them to me in return for the CL bit's you need.
that so tempting if only i could afford to spray all the bits now

CL bits are textured so would fit straight on.

Why spray, leave them black would break up the colour a bit plus saves looking for full colour bumpers.

if i was gunna keep them black id stick with mine, reason i have thought about D-arching is to colour coded as i some times think the colour of my car looks poo with black bits

Trust me it will looks loads better with the arches off.
-
thing is mate is a straight swap with the cl trim would at least give ya the bits and spray them later!
can imagine yours would look better without but can't see the pictures cos im on my phone!
im driving round with a black wing and a creased bonnet ya just have to put up with these things for a bit! :)
-
Personally I'd leave them on!!!
If you get CL trims and get them colour coded, then you'll need to get fully colour coded bumpers to make them work properly, which in my opinion is pointless considering the little difference it will make.
Keep it as it is mate.

-
Mine were about £560 new with tyres! Hmmmm
-
Louis.... Get it Slammed, and Keep them arches on.
I have a black golf, was debating on de-arching them myself but i decided I'm keeping mine on, and dropping it on its arse when i get some cash saved. Will look proper nice with my wheels i'll be getting next week..... Keep an eye on the Picture section... and then drool.

Having this very same argument with myself. arch or de-arch that is the burning question. the solution i have come up with isssssssss............keep em and blend em into the body and blow them over so to colour code. just giving it a smooth but still keeping an agressive stance, well hopefully.
-
You don't mean smooth them into the body do you?
The arches are plastic, the car is metal, fibreglass or filler will crack...

Will look  plus all the filler will crack.
-
If you want that effect.
Remove the arches and have the metal pulled and flared, that way you have the same width, without the gayness.
-
I accidently just ever so slightly scrapped my arch on me GTi on a van the black bit is now blue but it just wipes completely off with a wet cloth....for that reason i would say keep em! and also thats how the car should look lol

Aint they 16" Cades? Ebay do them for under £500 with tyres
-
Really? Damn. I paid £700 for mine back in April.
